Book Description
During the course of the last two decades, the health effects of tea and its catechins have been docmnented in nmnerous scientific studies and the scientific basis of these effects has been elaborated. Professor Kuroda and Dr. Hara provide in this volmne a translation of a thorough and extensive book published earlier (in Japanese), which will be of considerable interest to scientists worldng in the field, and to members of the general public interested in naturaJ ways of maintaining health. Both authors are themselves eminent researchers with extensive experience. Dr. Kuroda is best known for his publications employing tissue cultures. Dr. Ham has published nmnerous research papers on the health effects of green tea and its catechins. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the historical use of green tea in Japan and elsewhere, followed by a description of the many disease conditions against which these teas have preventive (protective) effects. Of particular interest to "senior citizens" is the chapter on the ability of tea components to ameliorate a wide range of age-related diseases including cancer, arteriosclerosis, and various forms of senile dementias. For scientists and others interested in infectious diseases caused by bacteria and viruses, a chapter dealing with the ability of tea components to inhibit these organisms will be of special interest.

Book Description
This Health Building Note (HBN) provides evidence-based best practice guidance on the design and layout of sanitary spaces for use in healthcare settings. Room sizes have been standardised wherever possible. For areas where a standard room size is not appropriate, this document provides a sizing methodology suitable forbriefing purposes. Most of the indicative room layouts are informed by one or more ergonomic drawings. In places, the guidance differs from that provided in Approved Document M (2010) and BS 8300:2001 (2009 edition). Where this is the case, the reasons for the variations are discussed.

Introduction to Unified Mechanics Theory with Applications

Book Description
This text describes the mathematical formulation and proof of the unified mechanics theory (UMT) which is based on the unification of Newton’s laws and the laws of thermodynamics. It also presents formulations and experimental verifications of the theory for thermal, mechanical, electrical, corrosion, chemical and fatigue loads, and it discusses why the original universal laws of motion proposed by Isaac Newton in 1687 are incomplete. The author provides concrete examples, such as how Newton’s second law, F = ma, gives the initial acceleration of a soccer ball kicked by a player, but does not tell us how and when the ball would come to a stop. Over the course of Introduction to Unified Mechanics Theory, Dr. Basaran illustrates that Newtonian mechanics does not account for the thermodynamic changes happening in a system over its usable lifetime. And in this context, this book explains how to design a system to perform its intended functions safely over its usable life time and predicts the expected lifetime of the system without using empirical models, a process currently done using Newtonian mechanics and empirical degradation/failure/fatigue models which are curve-fit to test data. Written as a textbook suitable for upper-level undergraduate mechanics courses, as well as first year graduate level courses, this book is the result of over 25 years of scientific activity with the contribution of dozens of scientists from around the world including USA, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Spain, China, India and U.K.

Book Description
Since the first edition of this highly-acclaimed book appeared in 1989, a considerable amount of new information has been published on the diverse effects that fluoride can produce in biological systems. The remarkable decline in dental caries that is now occurring throughout the world can be largely attributed to the use of ingested and topical forms of fluoride. Indeed, fluoride is now widely regarded as the cornerstone of modern preventive dentistry. In addition to its prophylactic qualities, fluoride is currently being investigated for its benefits in the treatment of osteoporosis, ischemia, and other major diseases; in larger doses, however, fluoride is known to cause fluorosis, and in excessive amounts can even lead to death. This newly revised edition includes data from the most recent studies in these areas and provides an up-to-date, critical discussion of fluoride metabolism and toxicity as well as environmental and physiological variables that can affect these processes. It will be of particular interest to dental students and residents, dental educators and researchers, toxicologists, pharmacologists and physiologists.

Book Description
The completely revised Second Edition of Metallurgy for the Non-Metallurgist provides a solid understanding of the basic principles and current practices of metallurgy. This major new edition is for anyone who uses, makes, buys or tests metal products. For both beginners and others seeking a basic refresher, the new Second Edition of the popular Metallurgy for the Non-Metallurgist gives an all-new modern view on the basic principles and practices of metallurgy. This new edition is extensively updated with broader coverage of topics, new and improved illustrations, and more explanation of basic concepts. Why are cast irons so suitable for casting? Do some nonferrous alloys respond to heat treatment like steels? Why is corrosion so pernicious? These are questions that can be answered in this updated reference with many new illustrations, examples, and descriptions of basic metallurgy.

Book Description
"Originally a food for the poor in eighteenth-century Naples, pizza is a source of national and regional pride in Italy as well as of cultural identity. In the twentieth century, pizza followed Italian immigrants to America, where it became the nation's most popular dish and fuelled the rise of successful fast-food corporations such as Pizza Hut and Domino's. Along the way, pizza has been adapted to local cuisines and has become a metaphor for cultural exchange. Today pizza is one of the world's best-loved and most adaptable dishes."--BOOK JACKET.
