Book Description
A new cookbook/survival guide/love letter to Montreal for these apocalyptic times, from the James Beard Award–nominated culinary adventurists and proprietors of the beloved restaurant, Joe Beef. “The first Joe Beef cookbook changed forever what a cookbook could be. Anything that came after had to take it into account. Now, with this latest and even more magnificent beast, the rogue princes of Canadian cuisine and hospitality show us the way out of the numbing, post-apocalyptic restaurant Hell of pretentiousness and mediocrity that threatens to engulf us all. It makes us believe that the future is shiny, bright, beautiful, delicious—and probably Québécois. This book will change your life.” —Anthony Bourdain It’s the end of the world as we know it. Or not. Either way, you want Joe Beef: Surviving the Apocalypse in your bunker and/or kitchen. In their much-loved first cookbook, Frédéric Morin, David McMillan, and Meredith Erickson introduced readers to the art of living the Joe Beef way. Now, they’re back with another deeply personal, refreshingly unpretentious collection of more than 150 new recipes, some taken directly from the menus of Fred and Dave’s acclaimed Montreal restaurants, others from summers spent on Laurentian lakes and Sunday dinners at home. Think Watercress Soup with Trout Quenelles, Artichokes Bravas, and seasonal variations on Pot-au-Feu—alongside Smoked Meat Croquettes, a Tater Tot Galette, and Squash Sticky Buns. Also included are instructions for making your own soap and cough drops, not to mention an epic 16-page fold-out gatefold with recipes and guidance for stocking a cellar with apocalyptic essentials (Canned Bread, Pickled Pork Butt, and Smoked Apple Cider Vinegar) for throwing the most sought-after in-bunker dinner party Filled with recipes, reflections, and ramblings, in this book you’ll find chapters devoted to the Québécois tradition of celebrating Christmas in July, the magic of public television, and Fred and Dave’s unique take on barbecue (Burnt-End Bourguignon, Cassoulet Rapide), as well as ruminations on natural wine and gluten-free cooking, and advice on how children should behave at dinner. Whether you’re holing up for a zombie holocaust or just cooking at home, Joe Beef is a book about doing it yourself, about making it on your own, and about living—or at least surviving—in style.

Book Description
"Joe Anderson was supposedly on the plane. The sound from the launcher's control box almost startled Olaf as he intently stared at the screen, his face eerily highlighted in green light. A red dot was centered in a bright green circle on the launchers screen as he gently pressed the firing switch. Fire streaked out into the air, a brilliant white star in the fading light, trailing a column of white smoke. The rocket accelerated towards the plane and then ended its short life with a fiery blast. " Joe Anderson must survive the threats of both man and nature in this thrilling sequel to Surviving In America: Under Siege.

Book Description
Joe O'Leary, a successful survival skills instructor, explains the fundamental techniques required in a genuine 'wilderness survival situation' - while at the same time showing you how to enhance any out-of-doors experience, from a walk in the country to an ambitious camping expedition. Most types of shelter, animal trap and fire-lighting technique are variations on a theme. Joe keeps it simple and describes in straightforward steps what to do to make yourself safe and comfortable: how to build a shelter that will really keep you warm, set a trap that will really catch food, identify plants that will really feed and nourish you and build a fire that will really light in all weathers. Rather than trying to cover every eventuality, he concentrates on techniques that can be applied successfully in most environments: it's better to know a limited number of skills thoroughly than a whole host of different variations specific to particular kinds of terrain.

Book Description
Living Outside the Box is a call to action beyond the cliche' of thinking outside the box that typically ends without and action being taken. To change the world takes fearless actions and this book is the guide to how to live your life and change the world for the better. The concept for this book originated with frustrations of a career of seeing corporate executives, boards of directors, politicians, commissions, committees, and nearly every gathering of people for the purpose of seeking solutions to problems culminate in absolutely nothing. The watershed moment when the term "Living Outside the Box" was coined came during my time as the CEO of the Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville when some very specific challenges called for new solutions. Another meeting was about to be scheduled by some members of the executive committee to "think outside the box." My frustrations boiled over at the thought of yet another meeting where the foregone conclusion was that good thoughts would be developed and nothing would be done about them. From my mouth came the words "what good is it to think outside of the box unless we have the courage live outside the box." The room went silent. I did not know if I was about to be fired or if my words had struck a nerve, but the meeting to think outside the box was not scheduled at that moment. Afterward, one of the attendees who represented the University of Southern Indiana came into my office and expressed the opinion that what I had stated was in his opinion quite profound. His role at USI had been to act as a facilitator to help businesses, municipalities, and non-profit agencies engage in outside the box thinking exercises with hopes that planning and actions would come from the exercises. He also expressed many examples of frustrations with the results of his facilitation sessions where little or nothing actually got done. He was so enamored with the phrase "Living Outside the Box" that he did some research to find out if this phrase had been used in the context of a call to action following facilitated sessions of "Thinking Outside the Box." Much to the surprise of both of us, it had not.He began encouraging me to pursue publishing and speaking engagements around the phrase "Living Outside the Box." That was the summer of 2009. It is now 2018 but the phrase and its call to action has never left my mind or my way of living. I work the phrase into every speech that I make whether it is to the Palm Desert Rotary Club, the annual CVEP Economic Summit, or as the keynote at the Chief Innovation Officers Summit in San Francisco. The words "Living Outside the Box" always make an impact and I hope it will make one on the readers of this book. As you will see, it is those who take actions that really change the world. Words inspire, perspectives provoke thoughts but it is only through deliberate actions that progress is made to positively impact the human condition and thus change the world.
