An Examination of Staffing Problems in Chester County (Pennsylvania) Volunteer Fire Departments
Author: Gary R. Long
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 34
Book Description
A downward trend was noted in the average number of firefighters responding to calls at the four stations which submitted annual reports from 1979-1989. This lent credence to the opinion of 20 of the 31 chiefs who had noted a reduction in the number of volunteers responding. The increasing call volume, especially in the automatic alarm category may be having an adverse affect on the ability of all-volunteer fire companies to cope. It is recommended that all fire chiefs analyze their reports to determine trends in response patterns. Several alternatives have been offered in this paper, but I am sure innovative fire officers will be able to devise more.
