Book Description
By providing case studies of Christian organizations and networks which have recently undergone succession, and drawing upon perspectives from leadership theory, psychology, organizational development, and theology, this work shows multiple overlapping aspects of succession. These facets include plans, processes, gender implications, theologies of leadership, successor origins, relationship between outgoing and incoming leaders, selection methods, and organizational beliefs manifested in succession ceremonies. An analysis of the various successions studied reveals the need for the organization or network to reflect on its own understandings and theologies of leadership; without so doing, organizational succession could be impaired. While exploring the complexities of leadership succession, particularly founder succession, this book provides clear lessons and guidance for those navigating such transitions in leadership.

Book Description
Succession, Wills and Probate is an ideal textbook for those taking an undergraduate course in this surprisingly vibrant subject, and also provides a clear and comprehensive introduction for professionals. Against an account of the main social and political themes of succession law, the book gives detailed explanations of core topics such as alternatives to wills and the making, altering and revocation of wills. It also explains personal representatives and how they should deal with a deceased person's estate and interpret and implement the will. Gifts may fail, estates may be insolvent or a person may die intestate, without a will at all. Increasingly relatives and others seek to challenge the will, for example on the grounds of the testator's capacity or under the law of family provision. This third edition is edited, updated and revised to take account of new legislation and case law across all the relevant issues, including a new final chapter dealing with the potentially contentious issues that are becoming more central to professional work in the field of succession.

Book Description
Master's Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,3, University of Applied Sciences Stuttgart (Fakultät für Wirtschaft), course: General Management/ International Business Management, language: English, abstract: Purpose: Knowledge of the factors that influence success in the succession of family businesses is limited. Despite recent studies, theory cannot explain why only 10 % of all family businesses make it to the third generation. The aim of this dissertation is to identify critical success factors for succession in family businesses. Methodology: A qualitative multiple-case study design with third-generation family businesses, two from Germany and one from the UK was employed. A cross-case analysis was carried out to identify critical success factors and then complemented by a single-case analysis. Findings: Nine of the ten tested hypotheses were confirmed. These were successor development, professionalization, knowledge transfer, capital structure, corporate governance, family harmony, stepping aside, succession planning and long-term orientation. The hypothesis about dividend policy was not confirmed. No significant differences were found to be based on national influence. Practical Implications: From the results, a new model for family business succession is developed which leads to four best practice recommendations. These are the implementation of shared leadership, linking ownership to management; ensure communication in the family to create family harmony and the use of outside consultants. Limitations: Due to the case study design, this research does not provide statistical generalizable findings. Originality/ Value: This study increases the knowledge about critical success factors of succession in family businesses. The use of cases from two countries and three different industries increases the significance. The newly developed model for family business succession proposes a new view on the succession process that should be tested by future studies.

Book Description
Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this concise exposition and analysis of the essential elements of law with regard to family relations, marital property, and succession to estates in Portugal covers the legal rules and customs pertaining to the intertwined civic status of persons, the family, and property. After an informative general introduction, the book proceeds to an in-depth discussion of the sources and instruments of family and succession law, the authorities that adjudicate and administer the laws, and issues surrounding the person as a legal entity and the legal disposition of property among family members. Such matters as nationality, domicile, and residence; marriage, divorce, and cohabitation; adoption and guardianship; succession and inter vivos arrangements; and the acquisition and administration of estates are all treated to a degree of depth that will prove useful in nearly any situation likely to arise in legal practice. The book is primarily designed to assist lawyers who find themselves having to apply rules of international private law or otherwise handling cases connected with Portugal. It will also be of great value to students and practitioners as a quick guide and easy-to-use practical resource in the field, and especially to academicians and researchers engaged in comparative studies by providing the necessary, basic material of family and succession law.
