Book Description
Subnuclear Phenomena, Part B is the second part of the compilation of the proceedings of the seventh Course of the International School of Physics, held in July 1969 in Erice, Italy. The said program is focused on the analyticity and algebraic properties in particle physics. This book includes topics such as leptonic and semileptonic interactions; nonleptonic decays; baryon, nucleon, and meson resonances; inelastic collision of hadrons; and the quark model. Also covered are specialized topics such as the large hydrogen bubble chamber; physics of Ke4 decays; and the dispersion theory. Just like Part A, this part is recommended for physicists, especially those interested in the further study of particle physics.

Book Description
In July 1975 a group of 122 physicists from 68 laboratories of 27 countries met in Erice to attend the 13th Course of the International School of Subnuc1ear Physics. The countries represented at the School were: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, The United Kingdom, The United States of America and Yugoslavia. The School was sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Public Education (MPI), the Italian Ministry of Scientific and Technolog ical Research (MRST) , the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Regional Sicilian Government (ERS) and the Weizmann Institute of Science. The School was one of the most exciting, due to the impressive number of discoveries made not only in the field of the new par ticles by the MIT-BNL (reported by S. C. C. Ting) and by the SLAC SPEAR (reported by M. Breidenbach) Groups, but also in the field of high energy neutrino interactions where Carlo Rubbia observes ~ pairs, together with bumps in the total energy of the hadronic system at Wh~4 GeV and a discontinuity in the at Ev~50 GeV plus a bump at Wmin~4 GeV; all these phenomena being possibly connected. To this remarkable amount of new and exciting results it has to be added the great discovery of DORIS (reported by B. Wiik) on the first example of a new particle Pc: the highlight of the Course.

Book Description
This thesis presents the first lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) approach to the charmed baryon regime, building on the knowledge and experience gained with former lattice QCD applications to nucleon structure. The thesis provides valuable insights into the dynamics of yet unobserved charmed baryon systems. Most notably, it confirms that the expectations of model or effective field theoretical calculations of heavy-hadron systems hold qualitatively, while also demonstrating that they conflict with the quantitative results, pointing to a tension between these complementary approaches. Further, the book presents a cutting-edge approach to understanding the structure and dynamics of hadrons made of quarks and gluons using QCD, and successfully extends the approach to charmed hadrons. In particular, the thesis investigate a peculiar property of charmed hadrons whose dynamics, i.e., structure, deviates from their counterparts, e.g., those of protons and neutrons, by employing the lattice QCD approach —a state-of-the-art numerical method and the powerful ab initio, non-perturbative method.

Book Description
Most of our present understanding of the elementary building blocks of matter and the forces between them is based on the quantized version of the field theories which are locally symmetric under gauge transformations. The present set of lecture notes gives both a status report and a survey of recent advances for the most important quantization methods in the field theories for elementary particle physics. The first part of the book introduces light-cone quantization as an interesting alternative to the commonly used covariant perturbation theory and functional-integral methods. Next, a general formalism for quantizing systems with constraints, the projection-operator approach, is presented and structural aspects of the renormalization problem for gauge invariant field theories are discussed. Finally, the mathematics underlying the functional-integral quantization is reviewed. Suitable as a reference for researchers in the field, the book will prove particularly useful for lecturers and graduate students in search of additional reading beyond the standard texts on quantum field theory.

Book Description
This book presents a “snapshot” of the most recent and significant advances in the field of cluster physics. It is a comprehensive review based on contributions by the participants of the 2nd International Symposium on Atomic Cluster Collisions (ISACC 2007) held in July 19-23, 2007 at GSI, Darmstadt, Germany. The purpose of the Symposium is to promote the growth and exhange of scientific information on the structure and properties of nuclear, atomic, molecular, biological and complex cluster systems studied by means of photonic, electronic, heavy particle and atomic collisions. Particular attention is devoted to dynamic phenomena, many-body effects taking place in cluster systems of a different nature — these include problems of fusion and fission, fragmentation, collective electron excitations, phase transitions, etc. Both the experimental and theoretical aspects of cluster physics, uniquely placed between nuclear physics on the one hand and atomic, molecular and solid state physics on the other, are discussed./a
