Book Description
Adhesive bonding has been used in the manufacture of primary aircraft fuselage and wing structures by various constructors since 1945. By a proper design, adhesive bonding often helps in designing structures mechanically equivalent to or even stronger than conventional assemblies. Adhesive Joining of Structural Components: New Insights and Technologies introduces the reader to some recent progress involved in adhesive joining of structural components. The chapters, seminal SAE International technical papers, cover the most recent advances in adhesive materials, surface preparation and controls, innovative bonding technologies, hybrid bonded/bolted joints, non-destructive testing and failure modelling of adhesively bonded joints. Edited by Dr. Alessandro Pegoretti, Professor of Materials Science and Technology at the University of Trento, Italy, Adhesive Joining of Structural Components: New Insights and Technologies is a must-read resource for those interested in the field of adhesive joining of structural components, which will assume an increasingly important role in designing and manufacturing lightweight structures. In fact, recent advancements in adhesives, methods for surface preparation and control, bonding technologies, non-destructive testing and modelling of failure mechanisms will certainly contribute to revitalize this relatively "mature" assembling technique.

Book Description
A program has been run to evaluate the effects of different metal removal methods and variations of these methods on surface integrity. Three alloys were studied: beta rolled Ti-6Al-4V; AISI 4340, quenched and tempered, 50 Rc; and Inconel 718, solution treated and aged. Various grinding procedures caused the titanium alloy to exhibit a fatigue strength range of 13 to 62 ksi. The fatigue strength of 4340 due to grinding variables ranged from 62 to 102 ksi, while Inconel 718 showed a range of 24 to 60 ksi. Abusive grinding conditions always resulted in fatigue strengths at the minimum of these ranges. Milling variables exhibited a fatigue strength range of 32 to 72 ksi in the beta rolled titanium alloy. EDM and ECM on Inconel 718 yielded 22 and 39 ksi, respectively, compared to 60 ksi for gentle grinding. Guidelines for processing aerospace hardware considering surface integrity requirements are presented in the report.

Book Description
This second edition of the textbook presents a systematic introduction to the structural mechanics of composite components. The book focusses on modeling and calculation of sandwiches and laminated composites i.e. anisotropic material. The new edition includes an additional chapter covering the latest advances in both research and applications, which are highly relevant for readers. The textbook is written for use not only in engineering curricula of aerospace, civil and mechanical engineering, but also for materials science and applied mechanics. Furthermore, it addresses practicing engineers and researchers. No prior knowledge of composite materials and structures is required for the understanding of its content. The book is close to classical courses of "Strength of Materials" and "Theory of Beams, Plates and Shells" but it extends the classic content on two topics: the linear elastic material behavior of isotropic and non-isotropic structural elements, and inhomogeneous material properties in the thickness direction. The Finite Element Analysis of laminate and sandwich structures is briefly presented. Many solved examples illustrate the application of the techniques learned.

Book Description
CCH's U.S. Master Depreciation Guide offers tax and accounting professionals who work with businesses a one-stop resource for guidance in understanding and applying the complex depreciation rules to their fixed assets. This area is especially challenging, because bits and pieces of applicable information must be gathered from a maze of Revenue Procedures, IRS Tables and IRS Regulations. These sources are frequently old and include some materials which may be non-applicable. CCH's U.S. Master Depreciation Guide pulls the pieces together, so practitioners can make sense of all the corresponding information and put the information into practice.

Book Description
How to predict thermoplastics behavior in high-performance structural applications Here's the very first engineering resource with all the data and design/analysis techniques you need to work with even the newest thermoplastics. Structural Analysis of Thermoplastic Components by Gerry Trantina and Ron Nimmer shows you how to predict stiffness, creep and fatigue of polymeric components--PLUS non-homogeneous materials such as structural foams and composites. You'll benefit from detailed comparisons of analytic prediction versus measured behavior and much more: Nonstandard property measurement and analysis; Nonlinearities associated with large deformations; Using structural geometry to offset low material stiffness; Designing thermoplastics to withstand impacts; Important loading variables, component lifetimes, frequency effects, hysteric heating and cyclic crack growth.
