Book Description
What if the problem isn’t your partner—it’s stress? This relatable and empowering guide offers indispensable tools to stress-proof your relationship. “Full of clear strategies for overcoming the overwhelm. A must-read!”—Eve Rodsky, New York Times bestselling author of Fair Play Every week, couples come into Elizabeth Earnshaw’s therapy room claiming their relationship issues are stressing them out. “The reality is just the opposite,” she says. “The unprecedented collective stress we all face today is the cause of many relationship challenges couples are experiencing.” With ’Til Stress Do Us Part, this trusted expert shares the tools you need to protect yourself and your relationship from distress—and restore harmony, understanding, and love. Beginning with an overview of many kinds of stress we face—from acute to chronic stress and even positive stress—Earnshaw uses client stories and personal experiences to reveal the visible and invisible strains on ourselves and our relationships. With warmth and humor, she shares research-backed practices to help you detect signs of overwhelm and take proactive measures to protect, refresh, and heal yourselves. You’ll discover journaling prompts, body-based exercises, scripts, boundary-setting guidelines, and more for letting go of pressures and restoring intimacy. Over the course of the book, you’ll learn how to: • Set effective boundaries • Self-soothe and self-regulate when life gets rough • Take responsibility for what makes you happy • Communicate with compassion rather than resentment • Identify and cope with what’s in your control... and what’s not • Reduce conflict and find more connection in your relationship “When we become partners, we commit to taking on life’s troubles together,” says Earnshaw. Here is an essential resource for helping you return your relationship to what it should be—a refuge from stress in a turbulent and demanding world in which we always have each other’s backs.

Book Description
Public safety professionals work together in life-and-death situations. During natural or transportation disasters, industrial accidents, shootings, suicides or dozens of other instances, police officers, firefighters, and paramedics are called upon to assist both injured and uninjured people. Although often romanticized in television series and in films, the real-life tasks of public safety professionals are usually unpleasant--restraining violent individuals and removing accident, homicide, and suicide victims from death scenes--and always highly stressful. They are frequently subjected to additional stress when their efforts are criticized by family members of the injured or deceased. Although stress can be harmful, even fatal, police officers, firefighters, and paramedics can have more productive and satisfying lives when they learn to positively control stress, rather than be controlled by it. This English language bibliography consisting of more than 700 references, covering the time period 1945 to early 1989, can help these and other professionals manage stress more effectively. Source publications, all of which are annotated, include books, articles, conference proceedings, theses, government publications, and dissertations. The bibliography section is composed of six chapters addressing psychological and physiological factors, the family, substance abuse, accidents, and suicide, with references arranged alphabetically by author surname. A list of acronyms and author and subject indexes complete the work. Of paramount importance to police officers, firefighters, and paramedics as well as their families, this bibliography will provide legislators, physicians, nurses, social workers, psychiatrists, psychologists, and sociologists with extensive and substantial documentation on the stress-filled work lives of these public safety professionals.

Book Description
When it comes to the defensive use of firearms, the skill of not being shot is at least as important as the skill of shooting. Moving to cover and shooting from cover should be a constant part of Handgun drilling, but unfortunately, most exercises don't emphasize this aspect of defense. In a perfect world, the first shots a beginner fires would be from behind cover. Seeking cover while drawing or firing should be an instinct you are training yourself every time you handle a gun, and if you stand out in the open when shooting drills, you are training yourself to stand out In the open when returning fire, an immobile and easy target, as is very often observed in law enforcement shootings. The antidote is to shoot from cover, from the very outset, and keep it a constant part of your training. As law enforcement training shifts to this paradigm, they observe that officers who come up for qualification are uneasy firing in the open--they instinctively prefer to shoot from Behind cover when it is available. There is very little use of cover in these drills, which is why I mention it here. They can, however, be adapted. It is up to you to give yourself the kind of training you want to have.
