Book Description
Excerpt from Catalog of Strawberries and Other Small Fruit Plants, 1923 We have grown them for the past ten years, during which time they have never frozen back, or failed to produce a large crop of berries. The berries, which are a beautiful jet black, ripen in large quantities, without red seeds, green tips, or the hard pits in the center found in inferior ber ries. They respond well to careful culture and repay the grower many times for his care and attention. Each plant in our fine lot of root-cutting black berry plants has a well-developed root system of its own. You are certain to get a liberal picking from them the first season after planting. The culture of blackberries is a very simple matter. It is important that they be placed in the ground, at just the depth at which they were grown, pref erably in light soil. Trim to a height of two or three feet the following season. It is well to pick out the centers of the plants while they are grow ing to increase the number of branches. The root-cutting blackberry will cost a little more than the ordinary blackberry, but will more than repay you for the added expense. We have a limited supply of these plants, so advise you to place your orders early. See page 16 for prices.
