Book Description
Redundancy, restructuring, downsizing. There are few, if any, other management books on this important topic, and yet the pace of redundancies has only accelerated in recent years. Coupled with this, many companies that implement redundancies as a cost-cutting exercise often fail to achieve their goal. Whilst viewed as an uncomfortable topic by many, guidance on how to implement a redundancy programme that is fair, proportionate and ultimately leads to improved organisational performance, has never been more needed. This book fills this important gap. It takes the reader through a redundancy implementation strategy – Re-Focus, Re-Organise and Re-Build – that incorporates the key aspects of planning and analysis, fairness and justice, and prepares management for redundancy implementation through training. What will your communications include? What will be your strategy for implementation? What training does your management need? Various helpful template examples are included for employee consultation, communication and training. The book will be invaluable for business managers, HR professionals, employee representatives and HR students.

Book Description
This case study discusses the development of a strategic redundancy implementation model over a 5-year longitudinal study within a private sector, automation engineering organization. Action research was used to drive continuous improvement through four iterations of developing a strategic redundancy implementation model. Each model was designed in accordance with the action research cycle of first identifying the problem, followed by understanding the theories and concepts that underpin the problem, succeeded by the collection of data through multiple methods as part of a qualitative study. Through this process, knowledge construction was created through critical reflection and learning undertaken by the action researcher. This case study will address the practical challenges and opportunities associated with conducting action research within an organizational setting. How and when researchers should consider using action research as a research methodology is discussed, aligned to a real-life scenario where dynamic change was essential for organizational survival. The key elements of action research, including the role of the researcher, key skills required, and the theoretical underpinning of action research are discussed.

Book Description
Do you know that organizations and IT departments scramble to devise a good strategy for enterprise mobility? Surprisingly, only half of them have well-defined mobile strategies, confirms a recent survey of over six hundred companies by IBM. Now this is where a handbook for enterprise mobility can be instrumental for CIOs, CTOs, and IT decision-makers who look for creating robust enterprise mobile strategies and solutions. This book shares some of the practical cases related with enterprise mobility, which will be relevant and resourceful for enterprises seeking to get through their own obstacles and setbacks. It is divided into four major sections comprised of following: 1. The Mobility Revolution 2. Enterprise Mobility in the Workplace 3. The Scope of Enterprise Mobility 4. Other Aspects of Enterprise Mobility These sections further unfold into thirteen chapters. This book should also help you explore and understand the key aspects like mobile device management (MDM), BYOD, and mobile security. Precisely, it could be no less than a handbook for CIOs, CTOs, and organizations who want to enable enterprise mobility effectively.

Book Description
The trend in the evolution of robotic systems is that the number of degrees of freedom increases. This is visible both in robot manipulator design and in the shift of focus from single to multi-robot systems. Following the principles of evolution in nature, one may infer that adding degrees of freedom to robot systems design is beneficial. However, since nature did not select snake-like bodies for all creatures, it is reasonable to expect the presence of a certain selection pressure on the number of degrees of freedom. Thus, understanding costs and benefits of multiple degrees of freedom, especially those that create redundancy, is a fundamental problem in the field of robotics. This volume is mostly based on the works presented at the workshop on Redundancy in Robot Manipulators and Multi-Robot Systems at the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems - IROS 2011. The workshop was envisioned as a dialog between researchers from two separate, but obviously related fields of robotics: one that deals with systems having multiple degrees of freedom, including redundant robot manipulators, and the other that deals with multirobot systems. The volume consists of twelve chapters, each representing one of the two fields.
