Book Description
An extensive pointing calibration program for the drive system and mount of the AFCRL 29-ft millimeter-wave antenna is described. The optical pointing accuracy was determined by measuring the positioning errors of the optical axis of the antenna. Since all sources of optical pointing errors produce equivalent RF errors, all RF errors except those produced by feed system and reflector asymmetry are determined. A brief description of the antenna together with the integrated IBM 1800 data aquisition and control system, tracking software, and an accurate time-synchronization method are presented. The star tracking program, which includes a method of star selection, precession correction, and refraction correction, is described. The analysis and derivation of the various pointing error parameters used to determine the best-fitting functions that characterize the positional errors are presented. Next, the star data are reduced by fitting the nightly error measurements to the best-fitting error function from which the values of the error parameters that take into account the servo, collimation, azimuth plane tilt, elevation axis skewness, and residual refraction are determined. Finally, the results of the star data analysis and statistical data are presented. The rms residual optical pointingg error, after pointin calibration, averaged about 3 percent of the antenna beamwidth, that is, 7.5 arc seconds in both azimuth and elevation. (Author).

Book Description
This handbook provides an updated comprehensive description of gravitational wave astronomy. In the first part, it reviews gravitational wave experiments, from ground and space based laser interferometers to pulsar timing arrays and indirect detection from the cosmic microwave background. In the second part, it discusses a number of astrophysical and cosmological gravitational wave sources, including black holes, neutron stars, possible more exotic objects, and sources in the early Universe. The third part of the book reviews the methods to calculate gravitational waveforms. The fourth and last part of the book covers techniques employed in gravitational wave astronomy data analysis. This book represents both a valuable resource for graduate students and an important reference for researchers in gravitational wave astronomy.

Book Description
The highly-anticipated finale to the New York Times bestselling 5th Wave series. Includes an exclusive diary entry from Cassie! The enemy is Other. The enemy is us. They’re down here, they’re up there, they’re nowhere. They want the Earth, they want us to have it. They came to wipe us out, they came to save us. But beneath these riddles lies one truth: Cassie has been betrayed. So has Ringer. Zombie. Nugget. And all 7.5 billion people who used to live on our planet. Betrayed first by the Others, and now by ourselves. In these last days, Earth’s remaining survivors will need to decide what’s more important: saving themselves . . . or saving what makes us human. Praise for The Last Star “Yancey’s prose remains achingly precise, and this grows heavier, tighter, and more impossible to put down as the clock runs out…this blistering finale proves the truth of the first two volumes: it was never about the aliens.”—Booklist, starred review “A haunting, unforgettable finale.”—Kirkus Reviews “Yancey doesn’t hit the breaks for one moment, and the action is intense, but the language always stays lyrical and lovely. It’s a satisfying end to an impressive trilogy, true to the characters and the world Yancey created.”—Entertainment Weekly “Yancey has capped off his riveting series with a perfect ending.”—TeenReads.com “[T]he ending provides both satisfaction and heartbreak.”—Publishers Weekly “Yancey's writing is just as solid and descriptive as in the first two books….What Yancey does beautifully is reveal the human condition.”—Examiner.com "Rick Yancey sticks the (alien) landing in the action-packed finale to his The 5th Wave invasion saga . . . . And the author gives us a major dose of girl power as well, pairing Cassie and Ringer for an uneasy alliance that provides the best moments in this fantastic series’ thought-provoking and satisfying conclusion.”—USA Today Praise for The 5th Wave Now a major motion picture starring Chloë Grace Moretz "Remarkable, not-to-be-missed-under-any-circumstances."—Entertainment Weekly "A modern sci-fi masterpiece . . ."—USAToday.com "Wildly entertaining . . . I couldn't turn the pages fast enough."—Justin Cronin, The New York Times Book Review Praise for The Infinite Sea “Heart-pounding pacing, lyrical prose and mind-bending twists . . .”—The New York Times Book Review “Impressively improves on the excellent beginning of the trilogy.”—USA Today “An epic sci-fi novel with all the romance, action, and suspense you could ever want.”—Seventeen.com Books in the series: The 5th Wave (The First Book of The 5th Wave) The Infinite Sea (The Second Book of The 5th Wave) The Last Star (The Third Book of the The 5th Wave)

Book Description
This book is an introduction to gravitational waves and related astrophysics. It provides a bridge across the range of astronomy, physics and cosmology that comes into play when trying to understand the gravitational-wave sky. Starting with Einstein's theory of gravity, chapters develop the key ideas step by step, leading up to the technology that finally caught these faint whispers from the distant universe. The second part of the book makes a direct connection with current research, introducing the relevant language and making the involved concepts less mysterious. The book is intended to work as a platform, low enough that anyone with an elementary understanding of gravitational waves can scramble onto it, but at the same time high enough to connect readers with active research - and the many exciting discoveries that are happening right now. The first part of the book introduces the key ideas, following a general overview chapter and including a brief reminder of Einstein's theory. This part can be taught as a self-contained one semester course. The second part of the book is written to work as a collection of "set pieces" with core material that can be adapted to specific lectures and additional material that provide context and depth. A range of readers may find this book useful, including graduate students, astronomers looking for basic understanding of the gravitational-wave window to the universe, researchers analysing data from gravitational-wave detectors, and nuclear and particle physicists.
