Book Description
"After all was said and done, Solomon saw that this was the only way to stand life. The whole of man is to devote his whole character to understanding his Creator. Heart, Mind, Soul, & Strength." ----------Why is the story of reality not self-evident? We were not given an instructional manual at birth. We're all thrown into this ring called life and somewhere along the way find a place to fit in. And sometimes it feels arbitrary - groundless and whimsical. But no man truly stands in that manner - all men are grounded in a faith that they cannot see. What is the true premise of man? All men choose to live based on a standing they will never be able to prove. What is important to realize is that all people stand reality with a story that at least provides them with at a little confidence as to where they are. A story which tells what brought everything to stand. Some are fine with the culturally popular stories explaining how a cosmic fart brought everything into existence billions of years ago. Others, like myself, frame reality in the story told in Scripture. From whichever story of standing you choose, along with that stories' accepted history, you then proceed to stand along with the rest of reality. People's thought about themselves are based on their standing. We all face what is a seemingly uncertain void in one way or another. We base our lives by how we stand it - and we base our deaths on that same standing. The way we live, the way we work, the way we go about "science" - all things are first framed by an understood position of faith. How can any of us really know what's going on? Life can only be understood according to the one Who brought all of it to stand - The Creator of all that stands. The Understanding Strength Project is about understanding the wonderful design of the human body in accordance with the story of Scripture. Scripture tells us that creation itself was once very good but is now fallen, and we feel that tension into the depths of our bones. To truly understand the human body and why we should take care of ourselves, we need to first understand the reality of creation itself. In Standing Ourselves, William McNeely (Mastery Level Resistance Training Specialist(R)) explains how we all live in accordance with a view of the world (i.e. world-view) - and truly understanding it establishes the character one will form in their heart, mind, soul, and strength. This book attempts to provide context to understanding our views of the world so that we may better stand ourselves. I mean stand in many ways. To stand just to be able to get by in life - to stand for the purpose of providing hope - to stand to give meaning to the world around you - to stand to better understand all that life has to offer - to stand in order provide your faith with what it needs - to stand to live by faith. To get to the bottom of the question Who am I?, we must first reflect on Why am I? Understanding the value of our physical bodies and why we should do anything with them starts with this question. This is a foundational question that we all are answering every day of our lives. Individually we ask ourselves this question in some wording. Collectively, as a culture, we're answering it somehow. Therefore, it's important to understand the time and place we live in, because we truly are shaped by every force around us.

Book Description
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • REESE’S BOOK CLUB PICK • A timely and important book that challenges everything we think we know about cultivating true belonging in our communities, organizations, and culture, from the #1 bestselling author of Rising Strong, Daring Greatly, and The Gifts of Imperfection Don’t miss the five-part Max docuseries Brené Brown: Atlas of the Heart! “True belonging doesn’t require us to change who we are. It requires us to be who we are.” Social scientist Brené Brown, PhD, MSW, has sparked a global conversation about the experiences that bring meaning to our lives—experiences of courage, vulnerability, love, belonging, shame, and empathy. In Braving the Wilderness, Brown redefines what it means to truly belong in an age of increased polarization. With her trademark mix of research, storytelling, and honesty, Brown will again change the cultural conversation while mapping a clear path to true belonging. Brown argues that we’re experiencing a spiritual crisis of disconnection, and introduces four practices of true belonging that challenge everything we believe about ourselves and each other. She writes, “True belonging requires us to believe in and belong to ourselves so fully that we can find sacredness both in being a part of something and in standing alone when necessary. But in a culture that’s rife with perfectionism and pleasing, and with the erosion of civility, it’s easy to stay quiet, hide in our ideological bunkers, or fit in rather than show up as our true selves and brave the wilderness of uncertainty and criticism. But true belonging is not something we negotiate or accomplish with others; it’s a daily practice that demands integrity and authenticity. It’s a personal commitment that we carry in our hearts.” Brown offers us the clarity and courage we need to find our way back to ourselves and to each other. And that path cuts right through the wilderness. Brown writes, “The wilderness is an untamed, unpredictable place of solitude and searching. It is a place as dangerous as it is breathtaking, a place as sought after as it is feared. But it turns out to be the place of true belonging, and it’s the bravest and most sacred place you will ever stand.”

Ephesians 6:11-13. 11)Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12) For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, [c] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13) Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Book Description
All of Europe was ablaze when Clair M. Callan was born in 1940 as World War II raged across the continent. Although her home in Sandycove in neutral Ireland was peaceful and safe, the war had a great effect on her and her family. In Standing My Ground, Callan provides insight into the shaping of her life. This memoir spans the arc of Callan's life--seven decades--as a school girl in Ireland, a wife, mother, doctor, and eventually a business executive in America. Callan recounts how she partially cracked the glass ceiling to upper management at a time when it seemed impenetrable to women in the workplace world. While employed in different medical environments she created innovative approaches to healthcare and improved patient safety and quality. Starting with her early years, a time of privation during World War II in Ireland, through an uncertain move to America during Vietnam, it ends in an era of plenty in Illinois in the twenty-first century. Standing My Ground offers practical lessons from her life, illustrating how one can advance in a competitive environment, no matter what one's sex.
