Book Description
Fate brings people together, and also tears them apart. Can two people survive the tumult of life-family obligations, economic stress, and complicated relationships? An instant attraction sparks when Sophia and Caleb meet as co-workers at Electronic Playzone, but any hopes of a relationship are already dashed: Caleb, only twenty-four, is working to support his two young daughters and his common-law wife. Meanwhile, Sophia dreams of being a writer and going back to school to become a teacher. When Caleb and his wife split, he and Sophia begin to grow close... until financial hardship forces Caleb to move across the country to Toronto, and he loses touch with Sophia. In Caleb's absence, Sophia begins to fall in love with another man, while striving to fulfil her dreams... but neither pursuit is as straightforward as she had hoped. Told in alternating perspectives, this character-driven story explores Caleb and Sophia's struggles as they navigate their early adulthood, searching for love, meaning, belonging-and each other. The Sonata: Allegro is the first book of the three-part Sonata Cycle....

Book Description
There has long been a need for a translation of the Judaeo-Christian Bible that did not deliberately mistranslate certain words and sentences for the purpose of concealing that the biblical authors' beliefs were quite different from those of modern Jews, Christians and Muslims. For example, "The LORD" is a falsification of the proper name Yahweh, a god like Zeus or Jupiter. But the most blatant fraud has been the rendering of the Hebrew word allahiym as the male proper name, "God." Allahiym is neither a proper name nor singular nor unisexual. Al means a god. The suffix -ah is a feminine singular inflection, so that allah means "goddess." The suffix -iym is a masculine plural inflection, making allahiym a dual-sex, generic plural, "male and female gods," or, in the common gender, "gods." This translation corrects such falsifications. Book Description
In recent years, the study of unnatural narratives has become an exciting new but still disparate research program in narrative theory. For the first time, this collection of essays presents and discusses the new analytical tools that have so far been developed on the basis of unnatural novels, short stories, and plays and extends these findings through analyses of testimonies, comics, graphic novels, films, and oral narratives. Many narratives do not only mimetically reproduce the world as we know it but confront us with strange narrative worlds which rely on principles that have very little to do with the actual world around us. The essays in this collection develop new narratological tools and modeling systems which are designed to capture the strangeness and extravagance of such anti-realist narratives. Taken together, the essays offer a systematic investigation of anti-mimetic techniques and strategies that relate to different narrative parameters, different media, and different periods within literary history.

Book Description
Set in the first half of the twentieth century, but reaching back to Bavaria in the late nineteenth century, The Stone Carvers weaves together the story of ordinary lives marked by obsession and transformed by art. At the centre of a large cast of characters is Klara Becker, the granddaughter of a master carver, a seamstress haunted by a love affair cut short by the First World War, and by the frequent disappearances of her brother Tilman, afflicted since childhood with wanderlust. From Ontario, they are swept into a colossal venture in Europe years later, as Toronto sculptor Walter Allward’s ambitious plans begin to take shape for a war memorial at Vimy, France. Spanning three decades, and moving from a German-settled village in Ontario to Europe after the Great War, The Stone Carvers follows the paths of immigrants, labourers, and dreamers. Vivid, dark, redemptive, this is novel of great beauty and power.

"This funny, sensitive novel is about an American child's experience at home during World War II, the adventure and urgency, and also the sorrow and anticlimax. Ellen Parker, 11, can't wait for her beloved Uncle Bob to join the army. She knows he'll be a hero and get medals. But when [he] is sent to fight in France, his letters lose their playfulness...Each episode on the home front is beautifully structured, building to its own climax, yet part of a unified story." -Starred/Booklist

Book Description
This book is an in-depth analysis of three of the most crucial years in twentieth-century Italian history, the years 1943-46. After more than two decades of a Fascist regime and a disastrous war experience during which Italy changed sides, these years saw the laying of the political and cultural foundations for what has since become known as Italy's First Republic. Drawing on texts from the literature, film, journalism, and political debate of the period, Antifascisms offers a thorough survey of the personalities and positions that informed the decisions taken in this crucial phase of modern Italian history.
