Book Description
Spine Outcomes Measures and Instruments evaluates and summarizes more than 100 outcomes instruments for the spine and its associated diseases. The book addresses important questions such as: What outcomes are important to patients and clinicians? Which questions are used to build a specific outcomes instrument? How is a specific instrument scored? Is it completed by the clinician or the patient? Has the instrument undergone validity or reliability testing? In what population was it validated, and how did it perform? The book is divided into the following "core" domains including function, pain, disability (physical), disability (psychosocial), patient satisfaction, and general health. Each instrument is displayed on two side-by-side pages with a summary of its content; a summary of any validity, reliability, or responsiveness; a score for clinical utility; and an overall score. More than 400 easy-to-read charts, tables, and color graphics facilitate comprehension of core concepts. Spine Outcomes Measures and Instruments is an invaluable tool for spine surgeons, neurosurgeons, and orthopedic surgeons who treat patients with spine conditions. Physiatrists, family practice physicians, rheumatologists, musculoskeletal pain specialists, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other health professionals who encounter outcomes instruments will also appreciate the comprehensive scope of this text.

Book Description
This book describes validated outcome measures for the international Spinal Cord Injury population. Based on rigorous systematic reviews of ca. 80,000 scientific articles, the authors present assessment tools for various clinical uses in the health sciences, following parameters of validity, reliability, and responsiveness. It is important for the development of clinical practice and research that practical and appropriate measures become universally accepted; this would allow comparisons and meta- analysis of high-quality randomized controlled trials of people with this increasingly common injury. This book emphasizes the need for consensus among researchers as to which tools must be studied in depth or adapted to other national contexts, or which measurement instruments should be standardized in order to develop universal norms and standards for the performance of people with Spinal Cord Injury. It offers a valuable practical guide for clinicians, rehabilitation professionals and nurses, but will also help researchers to gain more confidence in using valid and reliable assessment tools for comparable clinical trials.

Book Description
The book "Defining the Value of Spine Care" discuses the concepts of value-based spinal care to the spine care provider. The spinal care coverage and payment are linked increasingly to the value of care. Hence the spine care provider can easily understand the concepts of value in the context of spinal care, outcome measures and cost measures. Initial chapters provide detail information on understanding the value of spine care and definition of common terminology. This is followed by the use of process measures in measuring the quality of spine care and disease-specific health-related quality of life measures in lumbar degenerative disease and cervical degenerative disease. It also discusses the numerical rating scales, the quality-adjusted life year, decision tree analysis and simulation modeling in spine care, etc. The last few chapters explain about value-based evaluation of new spine-related technology, determining value with outcome measures in perspectives from each of the stakeholders of spine care delivery, developing value-based guidelines for the treatment of spinal disorders and comparative effectiveness research in spine care using SPORT. Spine care providers need to measure the quality and value of the treatment and provide tools necessary for understanding the task.

Book Description
The U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) provides disability benefits through the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs. To receive SSDI or SSI disability benefits, an individual must meet the statutory definition of disability, which is "the inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity [SGA] by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment which can be expected to result in death or which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months." SSA uses a five-step sequential process to determine whether an adult applicant meets this definition. Functional Assessment for Adults with Disabilities examines ways to collect information about an individual's physical and mental (cognitive and noncognitive) functional abilities relevant to work requirements. This report discusses the types of information that support findings of limitations in functional abilities relevant to work requirements, and provides findings and conclusions regarding the collection of information and assessment of functional abilities relevant to work requirements.
