Book Description
Someone asks, "Why do we . . . at Church?" The answer could be . . . "We've always done it that way," "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," or, "We don't need to change things and cause confusion." The answers to the questions reveal the heart of the problem in the modern church. "Spilt Grape Juice" hits many sacred traditions we hold dear about church. For example, parents tell their children, "You are going to wear your best clothes to church." When asked about a Sunday activity with friends from work, many Christians respond, "I'll be in church at that time." Root would ask the piercing question, "What do clothes and being in church have to do with worship?" Look again at worship, and the Sunday experience may take on new meaning.

WHEN OPPOSITES ATTRACT… John LeDeux is the wildest guy on Louisiana bayou. Even his infamous aunt, Tante Lulu, agrees. But now he’s a respected police detective who must fall back on his wilder days to investigate a crime syndicate's control of a Baton Rouge sex club. However, the last thing John expects is some nosy reporter screwing up his bust by dressing like a high-class Bourbon Street hooker and then writing an article calling him the “Sex Cop.” SPARKS WILL FLY… Single parent Celine Arseneux is raising a five-year-old son and proud of her award-winning work as a journalist. What she doesn’t need is a full-of-himself, sex-on-the-hoof Cajun bad boy distracting her from what could be the scoop of the century. Besides, if he gets too close, he might uncover her secret. BUT A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE SWAMP… Forced to hide out until the sex club case goes to trial, John distracts himself with a treasure-hunting company, looking for buried pirate gold. Of course, who else should be assigned to do a feature story on treasure hunting than his not-so-favorite journalist, Celine? Adding to the steamy heat and gators and snakes big as telephone poles, there's the matchmaking Tante Lulu, an ex-Amish Navy SEAL, a professional poker-playing nun, a Cuban professor, and a female NASCAR mechanic. What can a guy and gal do but laugh and surrender to the magic of a destined love?

Book Description
You could walk into a bookstore, go to the Christian book section, and find several books written about worship—after all, Christianity and worship go together like the church and salvation. You simply can’t have one without the other. This book is written with the hope of clearing up some confusion and ignorance about how we develop true worship between the saints and the creator of the universe. According to Jesus’s words in John chapter 4 in his dialogue with the Samaritan woman at the well, Jesus teaches her. God has always sought from the beginning a people he calls the true worshiper to be his family here through the church and one day in heaven through all eternity. One of the difficulties with the church today, as I see it, is its persistence to follow an erroneous tradition known as going to church on Sunday for worship. The reality is nothing further from the truth. Jesus warned about following traditions of men: “In vain, they do worship me” (Matthew 15:9). Jesus spent much of his time in his earthly ministry disputing with the Pharisees over their traditions which they made binding on the people. Traditions are like habits, once you engage in them they are hard to break. We turn the clock ahead in the spring and back in the fall as a matter of tradition, nothing spiritual about it. But when a spiritual activity is based on tradition, it has no scriptural support for its practice and it can be devastating in its effect on those who practice it. This book deals with the need to slay the sacred cow, known as going to church for worship. There is no evidence in the book of Acts of the church assembling for worship. Acts reveals much activity about the church but worship is not one of them. This book reveals to the reader the many activities designed by God to bring the saints to a meaningful worship experience and one which is approved by God and one he has been seeking since the foundation of the world. The book is controversial to say the least. Only because tradition has such a grip on the church’s lack of understanding of what Jesus meant by true worship, in my opinion. I’m sure your thinking will be challenged and provoked to making some changes in your personal relationship with the one who created you. Happy reading!

Biblical Preaching and Teaching
Author: Dallas R. Burdette

Pages : 762
Book Description
One objective of this book is to set forth an interest in the Book of Ephesians and the Book of Philippians. Ten studies are developed from Ephesians in order to explain predestination, election, and the richness of God's grace. Chapters 11 and 12 advance God's salvation with an emphasis in Chapter 11 concerning the role of women in sharing the message of redemption. Chapter 13 examines one's life before rebirth and life after rebirth. Chapter 14 looks carefully at arguments adopted to condemn instrumental music in the Christian assembly. The next seven chapters (15-21) investigate several statements from the Book of Philippians with accent upon God working in us to accomplish His outreach to the lost. Three chapters (22-24) look at the purpose of the church, church and ministry, and the identification of the church. Chapter 25 sets forth the biblical date for the Exodus as well as biblical chronology versus liberal chronology. The next chapter (26) looks at the prophetic ministry. Chapters 27 and 28 review the prophet Jonah with an emphasis upon his psychological setback in his first refusal to carry out God's command to go to Nineveh. Chapter 29 discusses God's admonition to Joshua. Chapters 30-32 scrutinize 1 Timothy 2:11-15, which in-depth study is an overview of the Pastoral Epistles. This study seeks an answer to Paul's negative declaration about the participation of women in the church at Ephesus. These particular women were involved in the telling of stories about their gods and goddesses as well as the practice of magic. They did not understand the true nature of Jesus. The next three chapters (33-35) analyze the identity of Jesus. And, finally, Chapter 36 is written from an apologetic viewpoint, which reading concentrates upon the "cell" to demonstrate that there is an Intelligent Designer.

From Legalism to Freedom

Pages : 498
Book Description
In 1517, Martin Luther took a stand for justification by faith alone in the finished work of Christ upon Calvary. As a result of his position, he suffered persecution for adhering to the Scriptures alone and not to traditions. This book traces my spiritual journey from legalism to freedom in Christ. In sixteen chapters, I map out my heritage within the Churches of Christ and the motivations that eventually led me out of bondage to liberty. One of the lengthiest chapters in this book is "Where the Scriptures Speak." One objective of this chapter is to help individuals to understand that one may speak where the Bible speaks and not necessarily speak as the Bible speaks. Chapters 11, 12, and 13 represent the very heart of my escape from authoritarianism to my dependence upon God's righteousness, a righteousness from God through faith in Jesus. Chapter 14 focuses on preaching in the early church. Without an understanding of the Gospel that the apostles proclaimed, Christians will never learn the spirit of toleration for differences within the Christian community. Chapters 8, 15, and 16 give attention to the Last Supper. The communion should be a constant reminder of the Cross and true unity among God's children. Chapter 1, 2, and 3 outline my original journey of faith. Dallas Burdette has been a serious student, teacher and preacher of the Bible for fifty-eight years, supporting himself for many years as an agent for AFLAC. He has written numerous articles for religious journals, as well as many essays and sermons which are available on his website. He has developed a keen interest in promoting unity among God's people through a more accurate reading of the Word. He has degrees from Amridge University (formerly Southern Christian University) where he also was Director of Extended Learning for five years. He holds the Doctor of Ministry degree (1999) from Erskine Theological Seminary.
