Excerpt from Spalding's Athletic Library, Vol. 7: Collegiate Basket Ball Guide for 1910-11 It is with considerable regret that it is necessary to again record the fact that a series of games 'between the respective champions of the East and West was not played to decide the National Championship for the season of 1909 - 10. It is a peculiar coincidence that the two teams which earned the right to compete for the highest honor in Collegiate Basket Ball were the same quintets that failed to meet last season. Both teams were anxious and willing to face the issue, but unfortunately the schedule of the Columbia University Five, champions of the East, ended on February 26, fifteen days before Chicago Uni versity played its last championship contest. To arrange a series after this date would have materially interfered with other sports which begin in the early spring.
