Book Description
By focusing on the relationship between external relations and domestic policy, Democratic Spain makes an important contribution to the literature on democratization, as well as showing how Spanish foreign policy evolved between the mid-1970s and mid-1990s. While the book is focused on Spain, its revisionist view of democratic transitions is of more general relevance. Democratization is seen as an integral process involving related though not simultaneous changes in domestic policy and external relations.

Book Description
No Latin American woman has ever elicited such extreme feelings of love and hate as Eva Perón. She was an actress of humble origins who fell in love with and married the soon-to-be president of Argentina, Juan Domingo Perón. Evita, as she was fondly known, became the most powerful woman in Argentine history. Adored by the masses and loathed by the bourgeoisie, Evita polarized Argentine society. Not even her death could put an end to the mixed feelings she aroused during her lifetime, and Evita remains till this day a controversial figure. Eva Perón: A Reference Guide to Her Life and Works captures Evita’s eventful life, her works, and her legacy. The volume features a chronology that includes her childhood, her acting career, her trip to Europe, her political activity, her illness, and her death, as well as more recent events that have memorialized her. While an introduction offers a brief account of her life, a dictionary section lists entries on people, places, and events related to her. A comprehensive bibliography offers a list of works by and about Evita. Finally, a filmography includes the movies in which Evita appeared and the TV series and films that have been made about her.

Book Description
A large part of this book is dedicated to the geology of the Pityusic Archipelago, followed by contributions on climate and geography. Funguses, mosses and leeks are the subjects of taxonomical botany, and a further paper deals with the vegetation of the islands. Another large part of this book is concerned with zoology: faunal lists on fleas, bees, wasps, ants, butterflies, beetles, snails, amphibians and reptiles, birds and mammals, the latter with their epi- and endofaunas as well as their subfossil remains are presented in 13 different papers. Three of them deal with the special problems of isolation and evolution of new races on rocks and small islets: tenebrionid beetles, lizards and terrestrial snails. Man, as an important factor in the Pityusic Islands, is dealt with in six contributions: prehistory, which means pre-Phoenician and which is treated for the first time, folk architecture, the 'endemic' dialect of the Catalonian language, exploitation of some natural resources and finally the problems of inbreeding and related matters on Formentera. The book closes with an outlook on the present state of the Pityusic nature and tries to show ways of conserving all important parts of the archipelago, so that 'our' two islands may preserve some of their typical vegetation, plants and animals and, thus, of their character.

From the start in 1989, the aim of the project was to present a complete European summary, combining data from both Western and Eastern Europe. The results are presented to the scientific community in the form of a thorough and attractive book, which will be indispensable in the field of entomology, ecology and biogeography.

Book Description
Only seven European monarchies remain intact today; all are constitutional monarchies. Four empires and 16 kingdoms have disappeared in Europe during the last two centuries. The Bourbon kingdom in France vanished first, in 1830; the Greek kingdom most recently, in 1973. Former sovereigns still consider themselves to be kings. Princes, dukes and counts remain, possessed of far-reaching connections to currently reigning monarchs. For some of them the path to headship of the royal houses has been complicated, taking many twists and turns. Two world wars caused the greatest attrition in monarchies. Exile has been bitter for some, happier for others, but in and out of exile the heads of royal families live well. Many are successful in business and as financiers. Many are enthusiastic followers of sports. Some manage large estates; others are still trying to regain royal properties. The chapters are arranged in the chronological order in which the kingdoms disappeared. This book profiles twenty-one heads of formerly regnant houses of Europe, set in historical perspective, and recounting varied life styles, occupations, and interests. At the end of each chapter is a chart or set of charts depicting the line of succession of the headship of the house.

Book Description
Rove beetles (Staphylinidae) are common elements of the soil biota, living in the litter and deeper soil layers. Although they are one of the most diverse and speciose groups of insects, no comprehensive books on their general evolution and ecology are as yet available. This book fills that gap, discussing significant aspects and active research examples in the fields of phylogeny and systematics, ecology and conservation, and reproduction and development. The combination of review chapters and case studies provides an excellent introduction to the biology of rove beetles and enables readers to become familiar with active research fields in this megadiverse group of beetles. Offering easy access to these fields, it also demonstrates how staphylinids are used as bioindicators in applied ecosystem research, including that concerning conservation issues. Experienced scientists and beginners alike find the diversity of subjects covered intriguing and inspiring for continuing and starting their own research. The book is intended for students and researchers in biology and zoology (entomology), including morphologists, ecologists, soil scientists, evolutionary biologists, paleontologists, biogeographers, taxonomists and systematists.
