Excerpt from Souvenir Book of the Municipal Building Dedication: Program of Exercises, Pictorial Review of the Municipal Building and a Down-to-Date Review of the Capitol City Mayor Joseph H. Lawler has been Chairman of the Municipal Building Commission since his election as Mayor of Hartford, April, 1914. Prior to that time, the Mayor's services in the Board of Aldermen had made him familiar with the general details of the various contracts under which the building was being erected. The Commission, under the Chairmanship of Mayor Lawler, has been harmonious and the members have found their association pleasant. Mayor Lawler is a native of Hartford and is in his thirty-first year. Although the youngest in years of any of the line of Mayors of the city, his experience in public affairs has been extensive. He served in the Court of Common Council and in the General Assembly. The Mayor is a graduate of Georgetown University and of Harvard Law School. He is a member of the Hartford County Bar and of the law firm of Rohrmayer and Lawler. He lives with his brothers and sisters at No. 79 Farmington Ave. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Souvenir of the Dedication of the New York State Education Building
Author: State Of New York Education Department
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9781332722129
Category : Reference

Pages : 86
Book Description
Excerpt from Souvenir of the Dedication of the New York State Education Building: Albany, October 15, 16, 17, 1912 The need of a separate building, however, was not based entirely upon sentiment. There were sufficient reasons of a more practical nature. As the Department had grown and spread out, it had come to occupy rooms in widely separated parts of the Capitol and in other buildings in different sections of the city. The efficiency of the Department was seriously impeded and unity and discipline were nearly impossible. Its priceless collections of books and manuscripts and its valuable museum specimens were improperly housed and were in danger from fire.
