Book Description
Excerpt from The Wassermann Test In preparing the second edition of this work, it has been the writer's aim to incorporate everything of real value relating to the subject that has been published since the appearance of the first edition, and it is believed that in the new edition will be found much additional matter which will prove of great value to the laboratory worker and practitioner of medicine. In order to include so much new material it has been necessary to practically rewrite portions of the work and thanks are due the publishers for their enthusiastic assistance in making it possible to present the work in its present form, a not altogether easy task with the present high cost of production and shortage of print paper. It will be noted that several important changes have been made in the technic of the test, as originally published by the writer, the most important being the addition of blood grouping in the directions concerning the preparation of the blood cell suspension used in the test. The importance of selecting donors for the blood cell suspension from individuals belonging to Group IV, of the Moss classification, first thoroughly demonstrated by Williams, can, in the writer's opinion, hardly be overestimated, and the adoption of this procedure adds greatly to the accuracy of the technic when the antihuman hemolytic system is employed, and obviates many of the objections which have been raised, from time to time, to the use of such a system. The writer is greatly pleased that a second edition of this work should have been called for within two years of its appearance, as it is thus evident that it has proved of service to the medical profession, and it is his earnest hope that this edition will prove still more useful to both the laboratory worker and the general practitioner.
