Book Description
This book contributes to debates in geography and urban studies by analysing the spatial dimensions and politics of urban policy failure. Attention is most often paid to successful urban policies. Policymakers go to great lengths to emulate success by importing policy 'models', implementing best practices, or pursuing 'silver bullet' solutions. Yet, stories of failure are at least as common as those of success. Some policies fail to launch in the first place. Others struggle to deliver their goals. Many collapse under the weight of poor administration, insufficient funding, or political opposition. This book establishes a vocabulary and set of analytical approaches for researching the spatial dynamics and impacts of urban policy failure. With a geographically diverse set of cases, the authors explore topics including policy (im)mobility, urban policy experiments, and governance initiatives ranging from sustainability to housing to public health, across Europe, North America, and Asia. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of the journal Urban Geography.

Book Description
This textbook provides students with an introduction to the fundamentals and applications of solar photovoltaic systems, connecting the theory of solar photovoltaics and the practical applications of this very important source of energy. Chapters are written concisely in straightforward language that provides clear explanations of the concepts and principles, with an emphasis on humanitarian applications of photovoltaic systems and a focus on relatively small size systems that will make the book relatable to readers. It begins with an introduction and overview of the fundamentals of solar cell fabrication, module design, and performance along with an evaluation of solar resources. The book then moves on to address the details of individual components of photovoltaic systems, design of off-grid, hybrid, and distributed photovoltaic systems, and grid-tied photovoltaic systems based on the National Electrical Code (NEC). Coverage also includes a techno-economic analysis of solar photovoltaics, a discussion of the challenges and probable solutions of photovoltaic penetration into the utility grid, and an exploration of the potential of photovoltaic systems. Photovoltaic Systems: Fundamentals and Applications is designed to be used as an introductory textbook and professional training manual offering mathematical and conceptual insights that can be used to teach concepts, aid understanding of fundamentals, and act as a guide for sizing and designing practical systems.

Book Description
SPACECRAFT RELIABILITY AND MULTI-STATE FAILURES ] SPACECRAFT RELIABILITY AND MULTI-STATE FAILURES A STATISTICAL APPROACH The aerospace community has long recognized and repeatedly emphasizes the importance of reliability for space systems. Despite this, little has been published in book form on the topic. Spacecraft Reliability and Multi-State Failures addresses this gap in the literature, offering a unique focus on spacecraft reliability based on extensive statistical analysis of system and subsystem anomalies and failures. The authors provide new results pertaining to spacecraft reliability based on extensive statistical analysis of on-orbit anomaly and failure data that will be particularly useful to spacecraft manufacturers and designers, for example in guiding satellite (and subsystem) test and screening programs and providing an empirical basis for subsystem redundancy and reliability growth plans. The authors develop nonparametric results and parametric models of spacecraft and spacecraft subsystem reliability and multi-state failures, quantify the relative contribution of each subsystem to the failure of the satellites thus identifying the subsystems that drive spacecraft unreliability, and propose advanced stochastic modeling and analysis tools for the reliability and survivability of spacecraft and space-based networks. Spacecraft Reliability and Multi-State Failures provides new nonparametric results pertaining to spacecraft reliability based on extensive statistical analysis of on-orbit anomaly and failure data develops parametric models of spacecraft and spacecraft subsystem reliability and multi-state failures quantifies the relative contribution of each subsystem to the failure of the satellites proposes advanced stochastic modeling and analysis tools for the reliability and survivability of spacecraft and space-based networks provides a dedicated treatment of the reliability and subsystem anomalies of communication spacecraft in geostationary orbit.
