Book Description
This book [earlier titled as Electromagnetism: Theory and Applications which is bifurcated into two volumes: Electromagnetism: Theory and Electromagnetism: Applications (Magnetic Diffusion and Electromagnetic Waves) has been updated to cover some additional aspects of theory and nearly all modern applications. The semi-historical approach is unchanged, but further historical comments have been introduced at various places in the book to give a better insight into the development of the subject as well as to make the study more interesting and palatable to the students. Key Features • Physical explanations of different types of currents • Concepts of complex permittivity and complex permeability; and anisotropic behaviour of constitute parameters in different media and different conditions • Vector co-ordinate system transformation equations • Halbach magnets and the theory of one-sided flux • Discussion on physical aspects of demagnetization curve of B-H loop for ferromagnetic materials • Extrapolation of Frohlich-Kennely equation used for the design and analysis of permanent magnet applications • Physical aspects of Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction (i.e., Fourth Maxwell’s field equation) through the approach of special relativity • Extrapolation and elaboration of the concept of electromechanical energy conversion to both magnetic as well as electric field systems Appendices contain in-depth analysis of self-inductance and non-conservative fields (Appendix 6), proof regarding the boundary conditions (Appendix 8), theory of bicylindrical co-ordinate system to provide the physical basis of the circuit approach to the cylindrical transmission line systems (Appendix 10), and properties of useful functions like Bessel and Legendre functions (Appendix 9). The book is designed to serve as a core text for students of electrical engineering. Besides, it will be useful to postgraduate physics students as well as research engineers and design and development engineers in industries.

Book Description
The increasing demand for wireless communications has revolutionised the lifestyle of today’s society and one of the key components of wireless technology is antenna design. Broadband planar antennas are the newest generation of antennas boasting the attractive features required, such as broad operating bandwidth, low profile, light weight, low cost and ease of integration into arrays or Radio Frequency (RF) circuits, to make them ideal components of modern communications systems. Research into small and broadband antennas has been spurred by the rapid development of portable wireless communication devices such as cell phones, laptops and personal digital assistants. This all-encompassing volume, Broadband Planar Antennas: Design and Applications, systematically describes the techniques for all planar antennas from microstrip patch antennas, suspended plate antennas and planar inverted-L/F antennas to planar dipole antennas. Also discussed are some of the most recent outcomes such as broadband antenna issues in promising ultra-wideband applications. Clearly describes the fundamentals of planar antennas and categorises them according to their radiation characteristics Introduces the advanced progress in broadband planar antennas for modern wireless communications Includes a wealth of case studies, design guidelines, figures and tables This text is essential reading for antenna, RF and microwave engineers and manufacturers within the telecommunications industry. Its highly accessible approach will also appeal to researchers, postgraduate students and academic lecturers.

Book Description
All-optical networking is generally believed to be the only solution for coping with the ever-increasing demands in bandwidth, such as the World Wide Web application. Optical backbone networks efficiently achieve a high level of traffic aggregation by multiplexing numerous users on circuit-switched wavelength paths - the so-called wavelength routing approach. In contrast, the reduced level of traffic aggregation in access and metro networks makes wavelength routing solutions not adequate. In these network areas, packet-interleaved optical time-division multiplexing with its finer and more dynamic bandwidth allocation is advocated. The book presents such an approach, known as photonic slot routing. It illustrates how this approach may provide a cost-effective solution to deploying all-optical transport networks, using today's optical device technology. To that end, the author combines DWDM-technology with fixed slot optical switching, and gives a comprehensive description of this approach in which slots are aligned across the wavelengths to form groups of data-flows that propagate as a whole inside the network. Operating algorithms are developed, and network performance is analyzed, both by means of theoretical analysis and many simulations of sample networks. This work will be of particular interest to researchers and professionals who are active in photonic networking.

Book Description
This authoritative resource presents theoretical models of coaxial slot radiators. Numerical methods are used to present the solutions of those models, as well as focus on radiator applications, including measurements and calibration techniques. In each chapter, the experimental results are used to confirm the theoretical computer calculations. Both industry application aspects and academic theories and formulations are explored many with numerical calculations written in MATLAB code. In addition, this book contains many configurations and technical drawings providing the reader with more effective interpretation and explanation. This book provides easy to understand mathematical symbols, design guidelines, measurements, and applications for coaxial radiators suitable for both engineers and scientists.
