Book Description
Fundamentals of Temperature Control focuses on theoretical foundations and principles involved in temperature control. The book first offers information on thermal-process representation and response. Discussions focus on response to damped harmonic inputs, principle of superposition, bode diagrams, ramp, step, and impulse functions, harmonic response, electrical analogs, basic equations, and thermal conductivity. The text then examines common thermal elements and open-loop temperature control. The publication ponders on closed-loop temperature control and the dynamics of discontinuous temperature control. Topics include dynamics in the phase plane and time domain, dynamic analysis, closed-loop control, secondary feedback, and cooling processes. The manuscript then examines quasi-continuous and continuous temperature control, as well as quasi-continuously controlled process behavior in the time domain and quasi-continuously controlled process behavior in the phase plane. The text is a vital source of data for researchers interested in the fundamentals of temperature control.

Book Description
Semiconductors have been used widely in signal-level or "brain" applications. Since their invention in 1948, transistors have revolutionized the electronics industry in computers, information processing, and communications. Now, however, semiconductors are being used more and more where consid erable "brawn" is required. Devices such as high-power bipolar junction tran sistors and power field-effect transistors, as well as SCRs, TRlACs, GTOs, and other semiconductor switching devices that use a p-n-p-n regenerative effect to achieve bistable action, are expanding the power-handling horizons of semicon ductors and finding increasing application in a wide range of products including regulated power supplies, lamp dimmers, motor drives, pulse modulators, and heat controls. HVDC and electric-vehicle propulsion are two additional areas of application which may have a very significant long range impact on the tech nology. The impact of solid-state devices capable of handling appreciable power levels has yet to be fully realized. Since it first became available in late 1957, the SCR or silicon-controlled rec tifier (also called the reverse blocking triode thyristor) has become the most popular member of the thyristor family. At present, SCRs are available from a large number of manufacturers in this country and abroad. SCR ratings range from less than one ampere to over three thousand amperes with voltage ratings in excess of three thousand volts.

Book Description
Methods of Experimental Physics, Volume 2 – Part A: Electronic Methods, Second Edition focuses on techniques and experimental methods involving vacuum-tube and solid-state electronic devices and vacuum-tube circuitry. This volume consists of eight main topics—passive linear circuit elements and networks, semiconductor circuit elements, vacuum tubes, gas tubes, rectifier circuits and power supplies, amplifiers, oscillators, and nonlinear circuits. In these topics, this book specifically discusses the relations between time and frequency response; devices employing bulk semiconductor properties; Richardson-Dushman equation; and gas tube phenomena. The full-wave rectifiers with capacitive load; vacuum tube and field-effect transistor bias circuits; and harmonic oscillators are also elaborated. This text likewise covers the oscillators that use negative resistance devices; field-effect transistors; and analog-to-digital (A/D) converters. This publication is a good source for physicists and students interested in techniques and methods involving electronic equipment.
