Book Description
The Calling of Joy is a calling to find the part of us that is more than what we do, how much we have, and what we think. It is a calling to our inner river, our passion, our well of being, our truth. Joy does not come by accident or coincidence. It does not come from hard work or simply good luck. Joy is remembering, trusting, being, rediscovering our inner resources. Joy is creativity, tears, and laughter. Joy is our guide through life's many choices. We can feel joy in our body. Joy is slowing down from the fearful energy of the daily world to life's beauty, innocence, the ocean of peace in this moment. It is joy that heals the separation from our mind and heart. And it is joy that heals the separation from our heart and our soul. Each of us is called to listen and honor our hearts, to nourish ourselves deeply and unfold our true self into the world. Joy found in the midst of great difficulty is joy found forever. We have choices everyday, to wrestle with the current plot of our lives or find the possible joy. There are many golden silent moments each day which can be real food for a busy mind and hurting heart. Are we open to the moments of pure life that feed us no matter how easy or difficult, light or challenging our lives maybe?

Book Description
One of the twentieth century’s greatest spiritual teachers inspires us to experience and appreciate both the elation—and sadness—of Joy: The Happiness That Comes from Within. With an artful mix of compassion and humor, Osho shows us that joy is the essence of life, that even unhappiness has its root in joy. He encourages us to accept joy by being grateful to be alive and for the challenges and opportunities in life, and by finding the good in all that we have—rather than setting conditions or demands for happiness. By embracing joy, one comes closer to a true, peaceful, and balanced state. Osho challenges readers to examine and break free of the conditioned belief systems and prejudices that limit their capacity to enjoy life in all its richness. He has been described by the Sunday Times of London as one of the “1000 Makers of the 20th Century” and by Sunday Mid-Day (India) as one of the ten people—along with Gandhi, Nehru, and Buddha—who have changed the destiny of India. Since his death in 1990, the influence of his teachings continues to expand, reaching seekers of all ages in virtually every country of the world.

Book Description
In this pathbreaking book, King-Kok Cheung sheds new light on the thematic and rhetoncal uses of silence in fiction by three Asian American women: Hisaye Yamamoto, Maxine Hong Kingston, and JoyKogawa. Boldly articulating the unspeakable, these writers break the silence imposed by families or ethnic communities and defy the dominant culture that suppresses the voicing of minority experiences. Yet at the same time, they demonstrate how silences—voiceless gestures, textual ellipses, authorial hesitations—can themselves be articulate. Drawing on theoretical works on women's writing, on ethnicity and race, and on postmodernism and history, Cheung takes issue with Anglo-American feminists who valorize speech unequivocally and with revisionist Asian American male critics who attempt to refute Orientalist stereotypes by renouncing silence. She challenges Eurocentric views of speech and silence as polarized, hierarchical, and gendered, and proposes an approach to Asian American literature which overturns the "East-West" or "dual personality" model. Yamamoto, Kingston, and Kogawa interweave speech and silence, narration and ellipses, autobiography and fiction as they adapt and recast Asian and Euro-American precursors. Drawing freely from both traditions, they reinvent the past by decentering, disseminating, and interrogating authority-but not by reappropriating it. A fresh and subtle response to issues relating to cultural diversity, Articulate Silences will be important reading for scholars and students in the fie,4s of literary theory and criticism, women's studies, Asian American studies, and ethnic studies.
