Book Description
Drawing on communications rescued from the shredders in the last days of Rhodesia, enlivened by photographs and memories both her own and those of her colleagues Maia Chenaux-Repond tells the story of her work as the Provincial Community Developpment Officer (Women) for Mashonaland and South in the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the 1970s. There are no records whatsoever in the National Archives of Zimbabwe about the Community Development Section (Women), even though it was active in all the provinces. In the absence of other documentary sources, and all other provincial officers long having emigrated or died, this account of her work fills a significant gap in the pre-independence history of Zimbabwe. he crucial focus of the Womens Section on improving the lives and skills of women in the rural areas became progressively more difficult when the civil war intensified from the early 1970 as rural people and the development workers themselves were moved into Protected Villages, and as the Ministry became increasingly militarized.

Book Description
This book takes a comparative law perspective and proposes a new approach for researching law in Africa. Western theoretical perspectives in comparative law are too Eurocentric to fully catch the peculiarities and characteristics of the African “lawscape”—in short, they are inadequate for studying African law. In this book, Professor Salvatore Mancuso considers the law in Africa from a different perspective. Deeply rooted in the culture of the African people, this approach considers African legal culture with the same legitimacy as Western legal culture, setting a precedent for future policy-making decisions relating to legislative development in Africa.

Book Description
This volume explores the multiple meanings and implications of lobola in Southern Africa. The payment of lobola (often controversially translated as ‘bridewealth’) is an entrenched practice in most societies in Southern Africa. Although having a long tradition, of late there have been voices questioning its relevance in contemporary times while others vehemently defend the practice. This book brings together a range of scholars from different academic disciplines, national contexts, institutions, genders, and ethnic backgrounds to debate the relevance of lobola in contemporary southern African communities for gender equality.

Book Description
The "International Survey of Family Law," published on behalf of the International Society of Family Law, is the successor to the Annual Survey of Family Law'. It provides information, analysis and comment on recent developments in Family Law across the world on a country-by- country basis. The Survey is published annually and its subtitle reflects the calendar year surveyed. Where a country has been regularly surveyed each year, the developments discussed correspond to the year in question. If certain countries have not been surveyed for some years the contributions will usually attempt to cover the intervening period. This applies, for example, in the present volume to the contributions relating to China and Turkey. If countries are being covered for the first time, then more background information will be provided about the state of family law in the country in question. Examples in this volume are the contributions from Bulgaria and Malta.
