Book Description
After moving to a strange town, Bethany must discover if a haunting legend is real in this frighteningly fun addition to the You’re Invited to a Creepover series. Can history repeat itself? When Bethany Warren moves from New York City to the small town of Warwick, she’s surprised at how quickly everything in her life seems to fall into place. She finds a great group of friends, and even has a new boyfriend, Nate Carlson, who lives next door and gives her a beautiful old ruby ring. Everyone in Warwick is a little obsessed with the Legend of Lady Warwick, the town’s namesake, who, according to the rumors, was mistakenly buried alive and now haunts the people of Warwick. Bethany thinks it’s just silly old town folklore, but then she starts acting strangely. Her new friends start to wonder: Is she for real? Will Bethany snap out of it, or is real life imitating legend a little too closely? This tale is a level 5 on the Creep-o-Meter. Super scary!

Book Description
“A terrific, beautifully written, frank, and funny memoir, and a compelling argument for pulling down the long outdated system of ‘bro’ culture that has dominated the industry since what feels like the beginning of time.” —Anthony Bourdain A sharp and candid memoir from a star in the restaurant world, and an up-and-coming literary voice From the moment she opened her first bar, Jen Agg knew she could only be her own boss from then on. I Hear She’s a Real Bitch tells the story of how she fought her way through the patriarchal service industry and made it happen, from getting her first job pouring drinks all the way to starting Toronto’s culinary revival and running some of Canada’s most famous restaurants. And she shares what she discovered through years of hard work and learning from her mistakes: how to run a great restaurant that’s also a great business. Readers who loved Gabrielle Hamilton’s bestselling Blood, Bones, and Butter will devour this raw, uninhibited memoir of restaurant life. Studded with Agg’s frank and often hilarious observations on an industry in which sexism has been normalized, I Hear She’s a Real Bitch is more than just a story about starting a restaurant: it is a rallying cry for a feminist revolution in the culinary world.

Book Description
Overwhelmingly, Black teenage girls are negatively represented in national and global popular discourses, either as being “at risk” for teenage pregnancy, obesity, or sexually transmitted diseases, or as helpless victims of inner city poverty and violence. Such popular representations are pervasive and often portray Black adolescents’ consumer and leisure culture as corruptive, uncivilized, and pathological. In She’s Mad Real, Oneka LaBennett draws on over a decade of researching teenage West Indian girls in the Flatbush and Crown Heights sections of Brooklyn to argue that Black youth are in fact strategic consumers of popular culture and through this consumption they assert far more agency in defining race, ethnicity, and gender than academic and popular discourses tend to acknowledge. Importantly, LaBennett also studies West Indian girls’ consumer and leisure culture within public spaces in order to analyze how teens like China are marginalized and policed as they attempt to carve out places for themselves within New York’s contested terrains.

Book Description
The kids are sick but the boss needs the presentation on her desk by ten. The parent-child kindergarten brunch can't be missed, yet the business meeting beckons. When the only thing she knows for sure is that her day will bring a new set of challenges and priorities to be juggled, how does a stay-at-work mom do it all?Wendy Sachs, stay-at-work mother of two, has interviewed women from every walk of life-- from celebrities like makeup maven Bobbi Brown, designer Vera Wang, CNN's Soledad O'Brien, the Today Show Ann Curry to everyday moms from all over the country--and has uncovered some inspiring answers. For starters, some stay-at-work moms have given up striving for balance; for true happiness and sanity, integration is the real key. Others have discovered that compartmentalization--wearing different hats at different times of day--is the only way to thrive. For all, the psychological, emotional, and financial payback of work is what keeps them feeling alive; even if they could afford not to work (and many can afford the choice), they wouldn't have it any other way.Demonstrating that a byproduct of having career ambition is a happier marriage and family, How She Really Does It will validate the millions of women now attempting to "have it all," or at least some of it all the time. Revealing the keys to staying-at-work, staying sane, staying satisfied, and staying at the heart of her family as well, How She Really Does It is a modern working woman's handbook.

Thomas has crafted an indelible story...all wrapped in a supernatural shroud that unfurls from the heart of America. Whether or not thoughts can breathe, books certainly can, and Violet does exactly that." —Jason Heller, National Public Radio "Don't let anybody tell you this book is a slow burn—Violet travels at the speed of horror." —Josh Malerman, New York Times bestselling author of Bird Box For many children, the summer of 1988 was filled with sunshine and laughter. But for ten-year-old Kris Barlow, it was her chance to say goodbye to her dying mother. Three decades later, loss returns—her husband killed in a car accident. And so, Kris goes home to the place where she first knew pain—to that summer house overlooking the crystal waters of Lost Lake. It’s there that Kris and her eight-year-old daughter will make a stand against grief. But a shadow has fallen over the quiet lake town of Pacington, Kansas. Beneath its surface, an evil has grown—and inside that home where Kris Barlow last saw her mother, an old friend awaits her return.
