Book Description
Fusing myriad primary and secondary sources, historian Larry Cebula offers a compelling master narrative of the impact of Christianity on the Columbian Plateau peoples in the Pacific Northwest from 1700 to 1850. ø For the Native peoples of the Columbian Plateau, the arrival of whites was understood primarily as a spiritual event, calling for religious explanations. Between 1700 and 1806, Native peoples of the Columbian Plateau experienced the presence of whites indirectly through the arrival of horses, some trade goods by long-distance exchange, and epidemic diseases that decimated their population and shook their faith in their religious beliefs. Many responded by participating in the Prophet Dance movement to restore their frayed links to the spirit world. ø When whites arrived in the early nineteenth century, the Native peoples of the Columbian Plateau were more concerned with learning about white people's religious beliefs and spiritual power than with acquiring their trade goods; trading posts were seen as windows into another world rather than sources of goods. The whites? strange appearance and seeming immunity to disease and the unique qualities of their goods and technologies suggested great spiritual power to the Native peoples. But disillusionment awaited: Catholic and Protestant missionaries came to teach the Native peoples about Christianity, yet these white spiritual practices failed to protect them from a new round of epidemic disease. By 1850, with their world devastatingly altered, most Plateau Indians had rejected Christianity

Book Description
In a world hidden within our own, magical beings live among us, capable of transforming into majestic animals... if they find their mate. Kingdoms of these enigmatic beings, called beastwalkers, have existed for centuries, each species governed by their own regal king and queen. One thing the courts crave above all else are the animi—human females who can unlock a beastwalker’s ability to shift into their animal forms. Lola Katz is known for three things, talking too much, being obsessed with paranormal romance books, and her two-toned skin. Lola’s vitiligo makes her feel both invisible and a specimen under a microscope at the same time. The nineteen-year-old, New York City waitress has no plans further than attending community college and hanging out with her two besties, Katy and Maddie. But when she starts seeing men with exotic, animal-like features, Lola starts to believe she’s losing her grip on reality. Then Lola meets Callon Leo, the prince of the Kingdom of Claws. Callon is handsome, enigmatic, and thinks of nothing else but his duty to his kingdom. When he uncovers the resurgence of animi abductions—a practice strictly forbidden by the council of shamans—he vows to put a stop to it by any means necessary. But Callon finds his focus shifting from his royal duties to thoughts of Lola, her captivating presence permeating his every waking moment. At the same time, Lola cannot seem to banish thoughts of the enigmatic prince from her mind. As she unravels the truth behind Callon’s sudden interest in her, Lola discovers her own place within a supernatural conflict between the kingdoms, where love, loyalty, and her own unique power intertwine.

Book Description
Proposing a new theoretical framework, this book explores Shamanism’s links with violence from a global perspective. Contributors, renowned anthropologists and authorities in the field, draw on their research in Mongolia, China, Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, India, Siberia, America, Papua New Guinea, Taiwan to investigate how indigenous shamanic cultures dealt, and are still dealing with, varying degrees of internal and external violence. During ceremonies shamans act like hunters and warriors, dealing with many states related to violence, such as collective and individual suffering, attack, conflict and antagonism. Indigenous religious complexes are often called to respond to direct and indirect competition with more established cultural and religious traditions which undermine the sociocultural structure, the sense of identity and the state of well-being of many indigenous groups. This book explores a more sensitive vision of shamanism, closer to the emic views of many indigenous groups.

Book Description
Herbs that can be used to affect the mental state of the consumer, as well as for their healing properties, have been a part of cultures and sub-cultures all around the world ever since our early ancestors first started experimenting to find out what various plants could be used for. Author Steve Andrews takes the view that the best herbs for use by shamans are those plant teachers that grow locally. This book is unique because it focuses only on those species that can be found growing within the northern countries of the world. Best-selling author Howard Marks, aka Mr Nice, described Herbs of the Northern Shaman as EXCELLENT! That was for the original version of this book when it was first published with black and white illustrations and photographs. Now, Herbs of the Northern Shaman has been updated to include additional species of herb and fungus, as well as a whole new collection of stunning colour photos by Katrinia Rindsberg.
