I've found a new Lover," she declared. "With you, it's over!" He turned and walked away. With that, a fiercely loyal twenty-three-year-old architect turned her back resolutely on a man . . . and on a world of promise for an independent woman in 1940 New York. Her heart had been lured away by someone else. And she had fallen madly in love. Young Pamela Reeve's decision soon plunged her into a spiritual wasteland with no end in sight. Book Description
"There is a rich tradition of wonderful women and other contemplatives who are great resources for thinking differently about Christianity. They emphasized divine love, human compassion, and the radical possibilities of contemplative practices. They were not afraid to criticize the church and indeed thought of their challenge as crucial to their faith. We do not have to lose faith with the beautiful wisdom of this story of intimate and compassionate love, dwelling among us and within us, if we do not want to." from the acknowledgments and note to readers To those seeking a more open, progressive approach to Christian faith, the Christian past can sometimes seem like a desert, an empty space devoid of encouragement or example. Yet in the latter years of the Middle Ages a quiet flowering of a more accessible, positive approach to Christian belief took place among a group of female mystics, those who emphasized an immediate, nonhierarchical experience of the divine. In this enlightening volume, Wendy Farley eloquently brings the work of three female mysticsMarguerite Porete, Mechthild of Magdeburg, and Julian of Norwichinto creative conversation with contemporary Christian life and thought. From alternatives to the standard, violent understandings of the atonement, to new forms of contemplation and prayer, these figures offer us relevant insights through a theology centered on God's love and compassion. Farley demonstrates how these women can help to refresh and expand our awareness of the depth of divine love that encompasses all creation and dwells in the cavern of every human heart.

Book Description
Bree is a vibrant young archaeologist working toward her doctorate in anthropology. She attains a job within the Museum of Natural History in New York City for the foundation Artifacts Alive. The playboy son of the foundation's founder and CEO invites Bree to accompany him to the museum's grandest event of the year to view never-seen-before Egyptian artifacts that she would give her right arm to study. Bree has avoided Derrick the playboy's advances for two years. She selfishly agrees to go out on this date as she can't afford the exuberant price of the ticket herself. Bree knows that Derrick only desires one thing from her, which she is not inclined to give, but the value of seeing the relics outweighs evading Derrick's inappropriate advances throughout the night. Little does Bree recognize there is a much more sinister objective Derrick requires of Bree than just a one-night stand. Bree's tranquil life turns inside out instantly as she's thrust into a frightening realm, which would deliver her directly to a psychiatric ward if she tried to justify to others her experience. Abducted and involuntary portaled into a life only envisioned in the darkest of nightmares, Bree finds herself surrounded by supernatural creatures, heinous monsters, foul dungeons, cruel torture, greedy obsession, and contemptible lust for supremacy. Within all the depravity, Bree develops unexpected alliances that flourish into intimate relationships. She acquires an astonishing phenomenon within herself that aids her friends' survival but comes at a cost to her own wellbeing. When Bree's offered the opportunity to go back to New York, she finds herself torn between returning to her past life or staying in her present one. She has experienced events that have altered her beyond her wildest imagination. She is no longer the individual she once was. A choice awaits her. Which will she decide?

Book Description
Alexander Pushkin (1799-1837) is best known for his great achievments in poetry, but the fixtion he wrote in the last decade of his life was to have a tremendous impact on the subsequent development of Russian prose, influencing such later writers as Gogol, Dostoevsky, and Tolstoy. This is a new translation of all his prose fiction, from his famous story "The Queen of Spades" down to unfinished stories and fragments that appear in English for the first time. Pushkin's non-fictional A History of Pugachev, also translated into English for the first time, is included because it furnished the historical background of his novel The Captain's Daughter. The translator has taken care to achieve a balance between faithfulness to the original and readability in English, and several Russian editions have been collated to establish an accurate text. The translations are annotated to place each work in its historical context, and to eluvidate passages not easily understandable to today's reader. Appendixes present a chapter that Pushkin deleted from The Captain's Daughter; fictional fragments; Pushkin's outlines of projected works; and the apocryphal novella The Lonely Cottage on Vasilev Island.
