Book Description
Carbon Capture Technologies for Gas-Turbine-Based Power Plants explores current progress in one of the most capable technologies for carbon capture in gas-turbine-based power plants. It identifies the primary benefits and shortcomings of oxy-fuel combustion CO2 capture technology compared to other capture technologies such as pre-combustion and post-combustion capture. This book examines over 20 different oxy-combustion turbine (oxyturbine) power cycles by providing their main operational parameters, thermodynamics and process modelling, energy and exergy analysis and performance evaluation. The conventional natural gas combined cycle (NGCC) power plant with post-combustion capture used as the base-case scenario. The design procedure and operational characteristics of a radial NOx-less oxy-fuel gas turbine combustor are presented with CFD simulation and performance analysis of the heat exchanger network and turbomachinery. Overview of oxygen production and air separation units (ASU) and CO2 compression and purification units (CPU) are also presented and discussed. The most advanced stages of development for the leading oxyturbine power cycles are assessed using techno-economic analysis, sensitivity, risk assessments and levelized cost of energy (LCOE) and analysing technology readiness level (TRL) and development stages. The book concludes with a road map for the development of future gas turbine-based power plants with full carbon capture capabilities using the experiences of the recently demonstrated cycles. Analyzes more than 20 models of oxyturbine power cycles, identifying the main parameters regarding their operation, process and performance simulations and energy and exergy analysis Provides techno-economic analysis, TRL, sensitivity and risk analysis, LCOE and stages of development for oxy-combustion turbine power plants Presents the design procedure and CFD simulation of a radial NOx-less oxy-fuel gas turbine combustor exploring its influence on heat exchanger network and turbomachinery Supports practitioners, policymakers and energy industry managers seeking pathways to convert coal-fired power plants to gas-fired plants with zero CO2 emission

Book Description
In the context of the climate crisis, governments reached a consensus on promoting enterprises and organizations to take relevant carbon reduction actions in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26) held in Glasgow on November 1, 2021. The topic of carbon reduction will continue to be discussed at the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2022. The international community expects all parties to truly implement their commitments to reduce emissions and take joint actions to effectively address the crises and challenges brought about by climate change. Carbon dioxide will lead to the global average temperature warming year by year. The use of coal, oil and natural gas and the emission of exhaust gas are the main driving factors of global warming. In addition, the causes of global warming also include the reduction of plants due to deforestation.

Book Description
This book provides new techniques for recovering exhaust heat from gas turbines, natural gas combined cycle power plants, biomass boilers, and waste heat recovery from compost and wastewater treatment plants The book provides modeling for the study and comparison of combined cycle power plants with a heat recovery boiler of three pressure levels with reheating, inserting a technological improvement of solar hybridization and partial regeneration in the gas turbine. It assesses the environmental impacts and economic sustainability associated with these improvements. In addition, it proposes emissions minimization, with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), and emissions treatment with a CO2 capture plant (CCP) and combined cycle power plant. Finally, it provides new insights into heat recovery from compost and exhaust gases recovery from wastewater treatment plants.

Book Description
In order to mitigate climate change, new solutions are being sought by energy companies to reduce CO2 emissions from offshore production facilities. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) may be a technically and economically viable alternative option compared to electrification of offshore facilities with power from shore or using offshore renewable power. However, decarbonizing offshore gas turbines using conventional post combustion CO2 capture technology is challenging due to the high flow rate of flue gas with low carbon content and space and weight constraints for retrofitting existing facilities. A high-level screening study was carried out to evaluate the techno-economic feasibility of several technologies to capture, compress and export the CO2 contained in the flue gas coming from two offshore operating aeroderivative gas turbines considering an existing natural gas production platform in the North Sea as case study. The following alternate concepts were compared to a base case developed using a generic mono ethanol amine-based CO2 post combustion capture process: Gas Turbine Exhaust Gas Recirculation; Gas Turbine Selective Exhaust Gas Recirculation (using either Membranes and/or Rotary Wheel Adsorption as CO2 selective transfer system in Parallel, Serie and Hybrid configurations); Membrane Contactor absorber; Floater or Gravity Based Structure with integrated carbon capture. The main conclusion drawn from this study is that most alternate cases lead to higher costs except from the membrane contactor which could generate substantial savings. The relative comparison between the different Selective Exhaust Gas Recirculation cases highlights a possibly optimum configuration with the parallel rotary adsorption based on Svante's VeloxoThermTM technology. A different overall architecture is most likely required to make a significant step change and the possibility to integrate the carbon capture equipment within the hull of a Floater or GBS was identified as the most promising solution for lowering costs compared to the base case. Finally, each project is governed by site-specific conditions and this work is not intended to provide a generic solution for successfully implementing CCS on existing offshore facilities, however it may serve as a basis for further collaborative works including technology providers keeping in mind that a combination of several technologies will most likely be required to overcome the challenges due to the cost and complexity to implement offshore CO2 capture.
