Book Description
As Christians find themselves trapped in the rhetoric of platform, influence, retweets, and fame, they need a ladder out of the fray. Many of us live in a prison of self-absorption. Shackled with pride and despair, we compare ourselves to others constantly in our frantic, unending pursuit of perfection. Seated with Christ gets to the root of this behavior and charts a path to freedom. Scripture says that God’s beloved are seated with Christ in the heavens (Eph. 2:6), treasured by Him and given a place at His table. Heather Holleman unveils what this means for us. It means we walk out on the fight for acceptance. We quit measuring ourselves to others. We leap free from cycles of shame. Securely-seated people can ask themselves hard questions about their lives; they can deal with sin, grieve their losses, and move forward in hope. From a position of security and self-forgetfulness they can joyfully do the good works prepared for them uniquely. They can even celebrate the successes of others. Seated with Christ is a deeply personal, liberating look at a glorious truth: that we have a place at God's eternal table.

Author: Laurie Olin
Publisher: ORO Applied Research + Design
ISBN: 9781939621726
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
Laurie Olin's interest in public outdoor seating in parks and civic spaces revolves around two poles: the first is a concern for aspects of the ordinary in our settings and actions, the apparatus and effects of the quotidian in our individual lives and experience; the other is the utility of public seating in the conduct and potential of our role as citizens and the establishment of place and community. A not inconsiderable aspect of both is the engendering of pleasure. In a democracy we are expected to fulfill two potentials - those of private citizen and contributing member of a community. When sitting on a bench or chair in a park or plaza we inevitably participate in the life of a particular space, city, and society while simultaneously pursuing our own life with its demands and aspirations. Chairs and benches in their many varieties and situations are the setting (pun intended) for profoundly simple, albeit important, and largely unnoticed aspects of our lives. Humans are gregarious and habitually love to be together, often sitting about for hours at a time. Commonly this is for dining, whether singly or in groups, large or small. We sit in public places, in private ones, indoors and out, often doing nothing except watching the world. Over the course of centuries many devices have been developed for such purposes. Not a comprehensive history or survey, this is an appreciation derived from frequent, often iterative personal observation and constant professional engagement with the topic of seating, sometimes in gardens, but more particularly in public and civic environments. The book consists of a series of essays that begin with the author's personal discovery of public seating. An 'ah hah' moment as a young architect visiting Paris and his early experience as a designer is followed by a brief history of the evolution of public space and seating in the West. This is followed by an account of some of his experiments as a landscape architect, and the theory, craft, and role of seating in a number of prominent civic places his firm and others have designed in the past four decades. Along the way there are reflections on the author's interest in chairs, seating, public space, and aspects of the profession of landscape architecture. Accompanying the essays there are sketches, and watercolors made by Olin over time while travelling or working that weren't originally intended as book illustrations. Some are quick, hasty notes of something observed; others are more careful studies with, on occasion, measurements. Some were made leisurely while enjoying a felicitous moment or place, while others record the author puzzling through a particular design problem. Each in some way exemplifies aspects of the essays helping to articulate or sharpen the author's insights and point of view - those of a designer, not a historian or critic. They offer an alternative presentation of the topics raised, and a dialogue between writing and image - whether one of contrast, or at times, contrast.

Comparison of Aircraft Controls for Prone and Seated Position in Three-dimensional Pursuit Task
Author: Clarence W. Brown
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Airplanes
Languages : en
Pages : 42
Book Description
"One hundred and eleven university students were divided into four groups. Each group was tested on the same psycho--motor pursuit task but utilized different controls. Two of the groups operated their controls from the seated position, and two from the prone position. One of the seated groups used the conventional stick and rudder controls, and the second seated group together with one of the prone--position groups employed a three--dimensional hand control. The second prone--position group used the Amptmann three--dimensional control. The results indicated that for either of the positions, seated or prone, the type of control utilized made little or no difference as far as performance on the pursuit task was concerned. However, performance in the prone position was found to be significantly inferior to that in the seated position. The indications are, therefore, that for this kind of task the type of control is relatively unimportant but the position of the pilot's body may be a prime consideration."--Abstract.

Seated in the Heavenly Realms
Author: Young Jae Song
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1666799718
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 344
Book Description
This book explains key doctrines in theology from the perspective of biblical eschatology. Eschatology first appears in Genesis rather than in Revelation, for it is about the chief end of man and God's creation. It is placed in the beginning rather than at the end of theology as the central and foundational motif. "The chief end of man" in the Westminster Shorter Catechism, for instance, is an eschatological concept in nature as well as in redemption. Eschatology precedes redemption, but "the eschatology of nature" is fulfilled through "the eschatology of redemption" in Jesus Christ. The "Golden Chain" of Ordo Salutis and the progress of redemptive history will be interpreted from the perspectives of covenant, eschatology, and Christology.
