Book Description
More than one in every five Latin Americans lives on less than $2 a day, and Latin America is the most unequal region in the world. The book tackles the problem of poverty and inequality in Latin America through the novel approach of using the decentralization of government functions to satisfy the basic needs of the poor. Decentralization can bring government closer to the people and strengthen the voice of the voiceless. Satisfying basic needs for services such as education and health care enhances productivity and imparts an indispensable opportunity to earn an income sufficient to emerge from poverty and to live a full life. Part 1 describes the poverty and inequality of Latin America and the Basic Needs Approach to Development. Part 2 introduces a model of decentralization as a step-by-step process, and it shows the policymaker how to implement decentralization in stages through matching its various degrees with real-world circumstances. Part 3 enriches the understanding of policymakers by analyzing real-world cases of decentralization in light of the decentralization model. The second edition includes two new chapters that cover the important but often neglected topic of taxation for inclusive development. Chapter 8 analyzes the influential tax advice of the World Bank in terms of its effect on decentralization and the satisfaction of basic needs. Appendix B of Chapter 8 presents an empirical analysis in support of the chapter’s argument that the Bank’s policy is in need of revision. Chapter 9 analyzes the effects of the World Bank’s tax advice on El Salvador’s tax reform and development process. Two other chapters have been extensively updated: Chapter 6 records and analyzes the rapid evolution of Mexico’s Oportunidades program for health, education and nutrition, and Chapter 10 evaluates the progress of the United States’ innovative program for foreign aid, The Millennium Challenge Account. Throughout the book, tables and references have been updated.

Book Description
Part 1 of the Trilogy "Characterising Locally Finite Groups Satisfying the Strong Sylow Theorem for the Prime p" & "About the Strong Sylow Theorem for the Prime p in Simple Locally Finite Groups" & "The Strong Sylow Theorem for the Prime p in Projective Special Linear Locally Finite Groups" is based on the beauteous BoD-Book "Characterising locally finite groups satisfying the strong Sylow Theorem for the prime p - Revised edition" (see ISBN 978-3-7562-3416-5) which in turn has been based on the author's research paper "Characterising Locally Finite Groups Satisfying the Strong Sylow Theorem for the Prime p" that was published on pp. 13-39 of Volume 13 of the gratifyingly open access mathematical journal Advances in Group Theory and Applications (AGTA) (see https://www.advgrouptheory.com/ journal/#read). Part 1 removes the highlights in light green of the Revised edition and adds the albeit considerably improved Pages i to vi, Pages 26a to 26f, and Pages xiii to xviii to the AGTA paper. In addition it adds the ten new Pages xv to xxiv to the Revised edition and thus renumbers the Pages xv to xviii into the Pages xxv to xxviii. It includes Reference [11] as Appendix 1 and Reference [10] as Appendix 2. Finally it calls to mind Prof. Otto H. Kegel's fine contribution to the conference Ischia Group Theory 2016.

Characterising locally finite groups satisfying the strong Sylow Theorem for the prime p
Author: Dipl.-Math. Felix Flemisch
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 3756234169
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 46
Book Description
The Revised edition is based on the author's paper "Characterising Locally Finite Groups Satisfying the Strong Sylow Theorem for the Prime p" which has been published on pp. 13-39 of Volume 13 of the very fine open access mathematical journal Advances in Group Theory and Applications (AGTA) (see https://www.advgrouptheory.com/journal/#read). For that paper the author has transferred the copyright to AGTA. The Revised edition introduces quite a number of corrections and embellishments, highlighted in light green, which could not have been considered by AGTA, and especially a much more beautiful line and page formatting. For these enhancements the author has kept the copyright. The Revised edition adds Pages i to vi, Pages 26a to 26f and Pages xiii to xviii to the AGTA paper which either are required for a book - the front matter (die "Titelei") - or describe related aspects and background which cannot be published in a mathematical journal. The Revised edition incorporates major revisions by the author and by editors as well as some supplementary material designed to bring the research paper up to date.

Life’s Satisfying—the Need of the Immoral
Author: Witness Lee
Publisher: Living Stream Ministry
ISBN: 1536022276
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 11
Book Description
Every human being has a need related to his or her condition. In his Gospel, John presents nine cases that represent the various conditions and needs of human beings in order to illustrate that Jesus Christ as life fully meets the need of man's every case. In this booklet taken from Life-study of John, Witness Lee presents the second of these nine cases, the case of the Samaritan woman in John 4. The case of the Samaritan woman illustrates the second need of all mankind—the need for satisfaction. At some point, regardless of our success or attainments, we all have had the feeling of being empty, and this emptiness, this sense of dissatisfaction, corresponds to the Samaritan woman's situation. However, just as Christ as life was able to meet the need of Nicodemus in John 3, so also is it able to meet the need presented in John 4. Thus, to the Samaritan woman, the Lord Jesus unveiled life’s satisfying.
