Book Description
The popular first edition of this book contained approximately 600 analyte/method summaries. This new edition contains twice as many new EPA-approved methods for testing and analyzing industrial chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, dioxins, and PCBs and is a printed version of the EPA's Sampling and Analysis Methods Database. Each analyte/method summary contains all of the information required to stand alone as a reference. Thus, in addition to a brief summary of each method, descriptions include required instrumentation, interferences, sampling containers, preservation techniques, maximum holding times, detection levels, accuracy, precision, quality control requirements, EPA reference, and, when available, EPA contacts with phone numbers. Each summarized report is a "stand-alone" document.

Book Description
Scientific research often starts with data collection. However, many researchers pay insufficient attention to this first step in their research. The author, researcher at Wageningen University and Research, often had to conclude that the data collected by fellow researchers were suboptimal, or in some cases even unsuitable for their aim. One reason is that sampling is frequently overlooked in statistics courses. Another reason is the lack of practical textbooks on sampling. Numerous books have been published on the statistical analysis and modelling of data using R, but to date no book has been published in this series on how these data can best be collected. This book fills this gap. Spatial Sampling with R presents an overview of sampling designs for spatial sample survey and monitoring. It shows how to implement the sampling designs and how to estimate (sub)population- and space-time parameters in R. Key features Describes classical, basic sampling designs for spatial survey, as well as recently developed, advanced sampling designs and estimators Presents probability sampling designs for estimating parameters for a (sub)population, as well as non-probability sampling designs for mapping Gives comprehensive overview of model-assisted estimators Covers Bayesian approach to sampling design Illustrates sampling designs with surveys of soil organic carbon, above-ground biomass, air temperature, opium poppy Explains integration of wall-to-wall data sets (e.g. remote sensing images) and sample data Data and R code available on github Exercises added making the book suitable as a textbook for students The target group of this book are researchers and practitioners of sample surveys, as well as students in environmental, ecological, agricultural science or any other science in which knowledge about a population of interest is collected through spatial sampling. This book helps to implement proper sampling designs, tailored to their problems at hand, so that valuable data are collected that can be used to answer the research questions.

Book Description
Coal Geology provides a complete integrated handbook on coal and all its properties, covering the physical and chemical properties of coal as well as coal petrology. It describes the age and occurence of coal; coal sampling and analysis; coal exploration; geophysics and hydrogeology of coal and coal mining techniques. It also discusses environmental concerns and computer technology, and includes an update on global coal reserves and production figures. First reference book to cover all aspects of coal geology in one volume Includes current thinking on environmental issues Presents a useful synopsis of the alternative uses of coal as a fuel Contains the distribution and reserves of coal deposits worldwide Offers a summary of the use of computing in coal studies, as well as coal sales and marketing opportunities Includes International Standards listings This up-to-date handbook successfully bridges the gap between academic aspects of coal geology and the practical role of geology in the coal industry and will be invaluable for all professionals and students in coal geology, geotechnical and mining engineering, and environmental science.

Book Description
The SAS® Software Companion for Sampling: Design and Analysis, designed to be read alongside Sampling: Design and Analysis, Third Edition by Sharon L. Lohr (SDA; 2022, CRC Press), shows how to use the survey selection and analysis procedures of SAS® software to perform calculations for the examples in SDA. No prior experience with SAS software is needed. Chapter 1 tells you how to access the software, introduces basic features, and helps you get started with analyzing data. Each subsequent chapter provides step-by-step guidance for working through the data examples in the corresponding chapter of SDA, with code, output, and interpretation. Tips and warnings help you develop good programming practices and avoid common survey data analysis errors. Features of the SAS software procedures are introduced as they are needed so you can see how each type of sample is selected and analyzed. Each chapter builds on the knowledge developed earlier for simpler designs; after finishing the book, you will know how to use SAS software to select and analyze almost any type of probability sample. All code is available on the book website and is easily adapted for your own survey data analyses. The website also contains all data sets from the examples and exercises in SDA to help you develop your skills through analyzing survey data from social and public opinion research, public health, crime, education, business, agriculture, and ecology

Book Description
Although sampling errors inevitably lead to analytical errors, the importance of sampling is often overlooked. The main purpose of this book is to enable the reader to identify every possible source of sampling error in order to derive practical rules to (a) completely suppress avoidable errors, and (b) minimise and estimate the effect of unavoidable errors. In short, the degree of representativeness of the sample can be known by applying these rules. The scope covers the derivation of theories of probabilistic sampling and of bed-blending from a complete theory of heterogeneity which is based on an original, very thorough, qualitative and quantitative analysis of the concepts of homogeneity and heterogeneity. All sampling errors result from the existence of one form or another of heterogeneity. Sampling theory is derived from the theory of heterogeneity by application of a probabilistic operator to a material whose heterogeneity has been characterized either by a simple scalar (a variance: zero-dimensional batches) or by a function (a variogram: one-dimensional batches). A theory of bed-blending (one-dimensional homogenizing) is then easily derived from the sampling theory. The book should be of interest to all analysts and to those dealing with quality, process control and monitoring, either for technical or for commercial purposes, and mineral processing. Although this book is primarily aimed at graduates, large portions of it are suitable for teaching sampling theory to undergraduates as it contains many practical examples provided by the author's 30-year experience as an international consultant. The book also contains useful source material for short courses in Industry.
