Kath(e)rina
Author: ByEri
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1450081215
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 649
Book Description
All my books are recounts of true happenings. The series: The Century Before 2000 focuses on the suffering of certain women and children of that era. Heroines, of the last Century, selected from specifc strata in society, portray normal everyday life and trials and tribulations during wartimes. For some plights began before recorded dates of political conflicts and continued in the aftermath. KATH(E)RINA realistically re-enacts in chronological order what it was like when giant-sized bombs rained from the the sky and upon impact shook or collapsed buildings, worse... trapped women, children and the aging beneath. Sometimes other women came to their rescue, sometimes they couldn't. Seldom the rescuers were trained men in their prime, (then serving in the military), they were mainly women; often mothers and children or men too old or too young for the armed services. All events in KATH(E)RINA actually took place, only her name is fictitious. I might point out that geographical orientation matter little when terror, pain, homelessness, hunger and depravation reign. What happened in Germany happened in England, in Poland, to some degree throughout Europe and Asia and to this day violence still reigns in many parts of the world. Apparently Earth's inhabitants still haven't learned yet to live peacefully on our beautiful but rapidly shrinking Planet.

Early Syntactic Development
Author: Melissa Bowerman
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9780521200196
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 324
Book Description
First published in 1973, this important work was the first systematic attempt to apply theoretical and methodological tools developed in America to the acquisition of a language other than English. Dr Bowerman presents and analyses data from a longitudinal investigation of the early syntactic development of two Finnish children, and compares their speech at two stages of development with that of American, Samoan and Luo children. The four language families (Finno-Ugric, Indo-European, Malayo-Polynesian and Nilotic respectively) with very different structures, and this is the first systematic comparison of the acquisition of several types of native language within a common analysis. Similarities in the linguistic behaviour of children learning these four different languages are used to evaluate hypotheses about universals of language, and to generate new proposals.

Grandmother School
Author: Rina Singh
Publisher: Orca Book Publishers
ISBN: 1459819071
Category : Juvenile Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 34
Book Description
Key Selling Points Based on a true story from Phangane village in India’s Maharashtra state, where grandmothers attend the Aajibaichi Shala (school for grandmothers). For many of them, this has been their first time in a classroom. Explores how important education is, especially for girls and women who have historically been left behind. Ellen Rooney’s bright and vivid illustrations shine as this book moves through the effects that the opportunity for education has had on one grandmother. The author dedicated this book to her own grandmother, who never had the chance to go to school. This book encourages readers to think critically about why education has historically been withheld from women and about gender inequality overall, as well as to consider what basic human rights and needs are. Grandmother School was the winner of the 2021 Christie Harris Illustrated Children's Literature Prize.
