Book Description
Rightsizing is the process of determining whether a medical practice has the right number of staff doing the right things at the right time, with the right resources to achieve optimal practice performance. With declining reimbursement and increasing costs, medical practice executives frequently look to staffing as a means of reducing costs. Before taking action, however, they need to know that a higher level of staffing may increase practice revenue. Authors Deborah Walker and David Gans provide the systematic approach to rightsizing staff in the medical practice. They outline a five-step process to benchmark and analyze current staffing, productivity and work processes to realign staffing levels and responsibilities. This book includes a number of tools and resources to help practice executives apply the staff rightsizing process to their organizations. By following the authors' guidelines, practice leaders will realize that rightsizing doesn't always mean downsizing or reducing costs. It means having the right number and right mix of staff to ensure optimal physician productivity and practice efficiency to maximize the practice's financial performance. Book jacket.

Book Description
Honored with many accolades, including a starred review in Library Journal, the first edition of this book demonstrated the power and flexibility of “rightsizing,” an approach that applies a scalable, rule-based strategy to help academic libraries balance stewardship of spaces and the collection. In the five years since Ward’s first edition, the shared print infrastructure has grown in leaps and bounds, as has coordination among programs. With this revision, Miller addresses new options as well as the increasing urgency to protect at-risk titles as you reduce your physical collection. Readers will feel confident rightsizing their institution’s own collections with this book’s expert guidance on the concept of rightsizing, a strategic and largely automated approach that uses continuous assessment to identify the no- and low-use materials in the collection, and its five core elements; crafting a rightsizing plan, from developing withdrawal criteria and creating discard lists to managing workflow and disposing of withdrawn materials, using a project-management focus; moving toward a “facilitated collection” with a mix of local, external, and collaborative services; six discussion areas for decisions on participating in a shared print program; factors in choosing a collection decision support tool; relationships with stakeholders; how to handle print resources after your library licenses perpetual access rights to the electronic equivalent; and future directions for rightsizing

Book Description
The recession accelerated declines in mail volume in FY 2008 and flattened revenues despite postal rate increases. That year, mail volume fell by 9.5 billion pieces, or 4.5%, and resulted in a net loss of $2.8 billion. USPS's financial condition has continued to deteriorate in the first 5 months of FY 2009, with accelerating declines in mail volume and financial losses. This testimony updates that info. and focuses on: (1) how USPS's financial viability is challenged given current economic conditions and whether USPS can cover its expenses and financial obligations; (2) USPS's opportunities to rightsize its retail and mail processing networks; and (3) what options and trade-offs need to be considered to address mail volume and revenue declines. Book Description
Following the 1998 terrorist bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa that resulted in more than 220 deaths and 4,000 injuries, there have been recurring calls to evaluate and realign-or rightsize-the number and location of staff at U.S. embassies and consulates and to consider staff reductions where practical to reduce security vulnerabilities. The administration showed its support for rightsizing in the President's Management Agenda by directing all agencies operating overseas to rightsize their presence. The Office of Management and Budget (0MB) is implementing this rightsizing initiative by analyzing the U.S. overseas presence and reviewing the staffing allocation process. Given the high costs of maintaining more than (30,000 Mexicans and foreign nationals overseas and the events of September 11, 2001, that highlighted the security vulnerability of Americans worldwide, the administration's rightsizing initiative aims to reconfigure U.S. government overseas staff to the minimum number necessary to meet U.S. foreign policy goals. In May 2002, we presented testimony on a framework for determining the appropriate number of staff to be assigned to a U.S. embassies. As you requested, this report presents the framework discussed in our testimony that outlines the key criteria for evaluating the U.S. overseas presence, along with examples of key questions that may be useful in making the right decisions.

Book Description
A practical, down-to earth guide for streamlining your possessions and making time for the things that matter. Whether it's going from the multi-bedroom suburban house to the city condo, or from a country and city house to one cozy cottage, millions of Americans in the coming years will face the task of planning a shift to smaller or more practical quarters, paring down a lifetime of possessions and furnishing their new lives with things that have meaning. This simplification of surroundings and "stuff" will liberate people in mid-life to pursue their passions such as travel or hobbies without the responsibilities of a big house weighing them down. Rightsizing will be more than a handbook about the process of planning a new environment, jettisoning a lifetime's worth fo surplus household items, and moving painlessly into a more suitable space. It will also be the first comprehensive guide to the emotional passage that this winnowing process entails, providing a prescription for the internal hurdles that can easily sabotage sensible decision making.

Book Description
Ever since the recession hit, “downsizing” has been the corporate mantra. Cut overhead, increase profitability, and the future will take care of itself. Most pundits agree that this is a shortsighted approach, especially in a volatile economy. While cutting overhead increases quarterly profit in the short term, it weakens an organization for the longterm. As result, “rightsizing” has become the new tool remain profitable and competitive. It forces the organization to reevaluate its goals, its market position both past and present, and where it wants to be in the future. This results in constructive measures that underscore the strengths of the organization to meet its goals for the future. Rightsizing Your Business, written by noted management expert, Bill Welter, is the first book either in e-format or print that clearly and concisely explains this important shift in management strategy and shows any business to proceed with effective rightsizing.
