It's a proven fact; we are healthier and happier when we are laughing. Not only is laughter good for our body, mind, and spirit, but it can also help us face the uncomfortable challenge of dealing with our personal difficulties. Almost Happy introduces the reader to a practical and accessible way to use humor to effect change. Reverse psychology can provoke us to discover, own, and enact authentic solutions to many of our issues. The 114 original buttons were designed as stirring visual communications to enhance the provocative process--which is based on three core ideas: 1. People don't like being told what to do. 2. Reverse Psychology, a technique known to most parents, also works brilliantly on adults. 3. Irony, satire and parody--when used warmly and responsibly--can provoke the emergence of conscience and common sense. Are you ready to read a book that will gently tease you about your issues? The buttons and provocative suggestions are offered with a twinkle in the eye and affection in the heart.

Book Description
Don't read this book! You probably don't like being told what to do. You're not alone-the more something is considered to be off limits, the more people tend to want it. This is the basic principle that underlies the phenomenon known as reverse psychology. Believe it or not, psychologists have proven that reverse psychology is a commonly used and highly effective social influence technique. Reverse psychology has been found to be particularly well-suited to intrapersonal contexts-especially attracting members of the opposite sex. This book will walk you through all the components of reverse psychology and its application to intrapersonal attraction. By reading it, you will learn what reverse psychology is, its theoretical function as a romantic influence technique, and, most importantly, how you can use it to make yourself irresistibly attractive to members of the opposite sex.

Book Description
Was human nature designed by natural selection in the Pleistocene epoch? The dominant view in evolutionary psychology holds that it was—that our psychological adaptations were designed tens of thousands of years ago to solve problems faced by our hunter-gatherer ancestors. In this provocative and lively book, David Buller examines in detail the major claims of evolutionary psychology—the paradigm popularized by Steven Pinker in The Blank Slate and by David Buss in The Evolution of Desire—and rejects them all. This does not mean that we cannot apply evolutionary theory to human psychology, says Buller, but that the conventional wisdom in evolutionary psychology is misguided. Evolutionary psychology employs a kind of reverse engineering to explain the evolved design of the mind, figuring out the adaptive problems our ancestors faced and then inferring the psychological adaptations that evolved to solve them. In the carefully argued central chapters of Adapting Minds, Buller scrutinizes several of evolutionary psychology's most highly publicized "discoveries," including "discriminative parental solicitude" (the idea that stepparents abuse their stepchildren at a higher rate than genetic parents abuse their biological children). Drawing on a wide range of empirical research, including his own large-scale study of child abuse, he shows that none is actually supported by the evidence. Buller argues that our minds are not adapted to the Pleistocene, but, like the immune system, are continually adapting, over both evolutionary time and individual lifetimes. We must move beyond the reigning orthodoxy of evolutionary psychology to reach an accurate understanding of how human psychology is influenced by evolution. When we do, Buller claims, we will abandon not only the quest for human nature but the very idea of human nature itself.
