Book Description
This book chronicles a lifetime of outdoor adventures primarily fly fishing lakes, rivers and streams throughout Wisconsin, as well as a few hunting and fishing excursions beyond. The stories largely begin and culminate on my beloved home waters of the Menominee River located in northeastern Wisconsin which I have fished for over 50 years. This wonderful, scenic river is currently threatened by a massive open pit mine that has recently received several permit approvals from the State of Michigan. The mine would be built 150 feet from its banks and would include a huge tailings pond that would produce toxic chemicals that will likely leach into the river over time. These true stories are written for anyone that enjoys reading about outdoor pursuits, but my hope is that it will also inspire others to get involved in advocating for precious natural resources that are threatened across the country. Profits from this book will be donated to organizations that are fighting to preserve the Menominee River.

Book Description
"Beware, if your sensibilities are delicate, if you see yourself as a person of taste, if 'outrageous' is not your adjective of choice. Because this is a story about filmmaker John Waters, whose early career is marked by such startling cult raves as Multiple Maniacs, in which its heroine is raped by a 15-foot broiled lobster; Polyester, which featured scratch-and-sniff cards; and, most notorious, Pink Flamingos, in which its transvestite star Divine eats fresh dog feces." -Tampa Tribune In Shock Value, the autobiography of notorious filmmaker John Waters, "the Sultan of Sleaze" recounts his career & explains the inspiration behind his movies. Through pictures, anecdotes, & interviews, get to know the stars of Waters' films-like Divine, Kitten, & Edith Massey-in ways that should make you queasy, or at least uncomfortable. Along the way, Waters explains what his filmmaking philosophies are & attempts to justify what he's done to American movies. "Shock Value is shocking. Any honest account of human experience must be shocking. For it is the function of art to make the reader or viewer aware of what he knows & in most cases doesn't know that he knows & doesn't want to know." -William S. Burroughs

Book Description
To say that life isn’t going as planned for Gettysburg ghost tour operator Faith Reynolds is a bit of an understatement. Nicknamed “Miss Mouse” because of her lack of self-confidence, Faith is facing the possible loss of her business. She’s also being pressured to date a man she’s not interested in just to please her father, and watching the man she’s secretly been in love with for years possibly end up as some other woman’s arm candy. Unfortunately, she also sees no way to change her current situation. Fellow ghost tour operator Alex Lafayette was once the poor kid from the wrong side of the tracks. Now he’s wealthy, successful, and fielding more offers than he can possibly handle. Despite the best efforts of the women in town, he’s also very much alone because the woman he wants doesn’t seem to want him in return. Though Alex has been in love with Faith since they were kids, he’s convinced she sees him as nothing more than a friend. Until one afternoon, unexpected sparks begin to fly between them. Desperate to change her life and snag a date with Alex, Faith begs her best friend, Kara Ford, to cast a so-called “boyfriend spell” to hopefully solve at least one of her problems. Once the spell is cast, Faith feels like a new woman – literally! She’s bold and confident, sexy and brash, and, oh yeah, has managed to snare Alex as the promised boyfriend. However, as the two grow closer both personally and professionally, Faith is forced to wonder if their relationship is simply the result of magic or if what she’s found with Alex is really true love that could last a lifetime? Assuming he never finds out about The Boyfriend Spell, of course! This 110,300-word novel is written in the modern romance style for a slightly hotter read. It may not be appropriate for younger audiences.

Book Description
Everybody Out of the Pond At the Water's Edge will change the way you think about your place in the world. The awesome journey of life's transformation from the first microbes 4 billion years ago to Homo sapiens today is an epic that we are only now beginning to grasp. Magnificent and bizarre, it is the story of how we got here, what we left behind, and what we brought with us. We all know about evolution, but it still seems absurd that our ancestors were fish. Darwin's idea of natural selection was the key to solving generation-to-generation evolution -- microevolution -- but it could only point us toward a complete explanation, still to come, of the engines of macroevolution, the transformation of body shapes across millions of years. Now, drawing on the latest fossil discoveries and breakthrough scientific analysis, Carl Zimmer reveals how macroevolution works. Escorting us along the trail of discovery up to the current dramatic research in paleontology, ecology, genetics, and embryology, Zimmer shows how scientists today are unveiling the secrets of life that biologists struggled with two centuries ago. In this book, you will find a dazzling, brash literary talent and a rigorous scientific sensibility gracefully brought together. Carl Zimmer provides a comprehensive, lucid, and authoritative answer to the mystery of how nature actually made itself.
