En las últimas décadas se ha observado un flujo de inmigrantes latinoamericanos/as hacia Estados Unidos, particularmente a las áreas urbanas. Investigaciones sociológicas han evidenciado un cambio en los patrones migratorios hacia destinos nuevos en ese país, particularmente hacia zonas rurales del medio oeste. Estos cambios tienen implicaciones en sectores de población que experimentan múltiples opresiones, como lo son las mujeres inmigrantes. En este artículo se utiliza una perspectiva mujerista y feminista chicana para examinar factores relacionados con la vio lencia doméstica en comunidades de inmigrantes en el estado de Iowa. El objetivo es promover el activismo para proteger los derechos de las mujeres que sufren violencia doméstica y son revictimizadas por ser latinas, mujeres, inmigrantes e hispanohablantes. Este análisis se basó en literatura sobre género y violencia en Estados Unidos y se enmarcó en un estudio etnográfico realizado con mujeres inmigrantes me xi canas sobrevivientes de violencia doméstica.
