RESUMEN Las estrategias de ahorro de energía en edificios, posibilitan la disminución de los costos de operación y/o mantenimiento de los mismos a lo largo de su vida útil. Sin embargo, el confort térmico de los usuarios se ve en muchos casos comprometido por políticas de ahorro energético, tanto en el diseño como en la operación de los edificios. Este ahorro de energía no deja de ser prioritario, pero no a costa del confort humano, ya que tarde o temprano este falso ahorro se revierte, debido a la falta de productividad en el trabajo o al deterioro de la salud de los ocupantes, además de un acondicionamiento indebido y al empleo de métodos poco eficaces. Un compromiso entre ambas necesidades se puede alcanzar, o al menos aproximar, a través de pautas de diseño térmico elaboradas con criterios más precisos, a fin de lograr un ambiente confortable, evitando el sobre-dimensionamiento de materiales y energía. Uno de los problemas principales asociado al diseño orientado al ahorro de energía, o sistemas de climatización natural, es el de su control. Son necesarias estrategias de diseño para facilitar el control térmico de un modo más preciso, optimizando las condiciones de confort, los recursos materiales y la energía. En la investigación se efectúa un análisis desde el punto de vista dinámico del comportamiento térmico de diferentes tipos de edificios, con el objeto de evaluar y comparar sus respuestas térmicas en relación con el clima exterior. Con base en datos experimentales de un cierto número de edificios, obtenidos a través de mediciones de variables ambientales, se pretende hallar una relación entre tipologías edificatorias, y la respuesta que se genera debido a las características de esta tipología. Se propone una metodología de evaluación global de los fenómenos y efectos térmicos que actúan sobre el edificio, utilizando un número reducido de variables y coeficientes, con una precisión razonable respecto a su simplicidad. On October 14-19, 1990, the 6th International Conference on the Conservation of Earthen Architecture was held in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Sponsored by the GCI, the Museum of New Mexico State Monuments, ICCROM, CRATerre-EAG, and the National Park Service, under the aegis of US/ICOMOS, the event was organized to promote the exchange of ideas, techniques, and research findings on the conservation of earthen architecture. Presentations at the conference covered a diversity of subjects, including the historic traditions of earthen architecture, conservation and restoration, site preservation, studies in consolidation and seismic mitigation, and examinations of moisture problems, clay chemistry, and microstructures. The fact that unrest may, or may not lead to an imminent eruption contributes significant uncertainty to short-term volcanic hazard and risk assessment. Although it is reasonable to assume that all eruptions are associated with precursory activity of some sort, the understanding of the causative links between subsurface processes, resulting unrest signals and imminent eruption is incomplete. When a volcano evolves from dormancy into a phase of unrest, important scientific, political and social questions need to be addressed. This book is aimed at graduate students, researchers of volcanic phenomena, professionals in volcanic hazard and risk assessment, observatory personnel, as well as emergency managers who wish to learn about the complex nature of volcanic unrest and how to utilize new findings to deal with unrest phenomena at scientific and emergency managing levels.
