Book Description
The second edition of Distractions is an updated copy of the original book written in 2018. Part I (Conservative Strategies) outlines how conservatives deal with the critical issues of communications, the economy, the electoral process, the law, and DEMOCRACY. Part II (The “G’s”) focuses on the issue areas used mainly by the GOP to gain acceptance in the eyes of the general public. An additional chapter has been added — “Gerrymandering”. With the advent of Citizens United, The Gutting of the 1965 Voting Rights Act with the ruling in the Shelby Co. v. Holder case, The Chiafalo v. Washington case, Heller, and Dobbs v. Jackson already decided, Gerrymandering became the cherry atop the sundae. Afterword has been revised and an appendix added which includes: A Timeline, An example of a Literacy Test, and a copy of the Constitution of the Confederate States of America with cited changes from the U.S. Constitution. Examples of the media gaslighting its reading audience for ratings and the profits they generate are included as well. Emphasis are placed on the future of the GOP after the Trump led fiasco of January 6th. There is also a great deal of attention placed on the lead-up to the 2024 General Election under the pending dispositions of the various Trump indictments. Conservatives’ immigration woes and their fear of the United States becoming a “Colored” country are discussed, and gun violence and the policing of the Black man in America is given added attention, and the Biographical section was expanded.

Book Description
The book accomplishes 2 simple tasks. First, it identifies and discusses the primary barriers to collaboration. Second, it provides the methods for overcoming the barriers. The difference is that it takes the discussion deep into the system of deception, self-deception, role and identity confusion, guilt, shame, and adult development in response to the Parental Obligation. We donÕt know ourselves or focus on what we think are negatives about ourselves (shame). We donÕt trust ourselves (suppression). We donÕt know the other (role confusion). We donÕt trust the other (isolation). We are a bunch of islands attempting to convince ourselves that we are Òfamily, Ó and therefore ÒfamilyÓ has come to mean something less than people who are willing to give their all to establish your success.

Book Description
A Library Journal “Best Book of the Year” The first “delicious tale of scandal and villainy” in a romantic Regency-era mystery series starring two crime-solving aristocrats (Rhys Bowen, New York Times–bestselling author) In 1814, Atlas Catesby, a brilliant adventurer and youngest son of a baron, is anxious to resume his world travels after being injured in a carriage accident in London. But his plans are derailed when, passing through a country village, he discovers a helpless woman being auctioned off to the highest bidder—by her husband. In order to save her from being violated by another potential buyer, Atlas purchases the lady, Lilliana, on the spot to set her free. But Lilliana, desperate to be with her young sons and knowing the laws of England give a father all parental rights, refuses to be rescued—until weeks later when her husband is murdered and Atlas is the only one who can help clear her name of the crime. Fortunately, Atlas is a master at solving complicated puzzles—with games as well as the intricacies of human motivation—and finds himself uniquely suited to the task, despite the personal peril it may put him in. But soon Altas learns the dead man had many secrets—and more than a few enemies willing to kill to keep them quiet—in Murder in Mayfair, the first in a new historical mystery series by D. M. Quincy.

Book Description
This is an important book...a harrowing documentation of our modern world's descent into fragmentation, self alienation, and emptiness-brought on, to a large extent, by communication technologies that distract us, dislocate us, and destroy our inner lives.--Alan Lightman, author of the bestselling Einstein's Dreams and National Book Award finalist The Diagnosis and MIT professorThis fascinating book on America's collective ADD is a wake-up call to all of us to take back our lives, turn off the technology, and focus on paying attention to what makes us human and fulfilled.--Rosabeth Moss Kanter, Harvard Business School Professor and author of America the Principled and ConfidenceWe have oceans of information at our disposal, yet we increasingly seek knowledge in online headlines glimpsed on the run. We are networked as never before, but we connect with friends and family via e-mail and fleeting face-to-face moments that are rescheduled and interrupted a dozen times. Despite our wondrous technologies and scientific advances, we are nurturing a culture of diffusion, fragmentation, and detachment. In this new world, something crucial is missing: attention-the key to recapturing our ability to connect, reflect, and relax; the secret to coping with a mobile, multitasking, virtual world. How did we get to the point where we keep one eye on our Blackberry and one eye on our spouse-in bed? We can contact millions of people worldwide, so why is it hard to schedule a simple family supper? Most importantly, what can we do about it? Distracted vividly shows how day by day, our hyper-mobile, cyber-centric, interrupted lives erode our capacity for deep focus and awareness. The implications for a healthy society are stark.Attention is the building block of intimacy, wisdom, and cultural progress. Jackson makes it clear that if we squander our powers of attention, our technological age could ultimately slip into cultural decline. And yet we are just as capable of igniting a renaissance of attention by strengthening our skills of focus and perception, the keys to judgment, memory, morality, and happiness. Jackson reveals the astonishing scientific discoveries that can help us rekindle our powers of attention in a world of speed and overload. She offers us a wake-up call, and reasons for hope.Distracted is an original exposé of the multifaceted nature of attention, an engaging and often surprising portrait of postmodern life, and a compelling roadmap for cultivating sustained focus and nurturing a more enriched and literate society. More than ever, we cannot afford to let distraction become the marker of our time.Maggie Jackson (New York, NY) is an award-winning author and journalist who writes the popular Balancing Acts column in the Boston Globe. Her work also has appeared in The New York Times and on National Public Radio, among other national publications. Her acclaimed first book, What's Happening to Home? Balancing Work, Life and Refuge in the Information Age, examined the loss of home as a refuge.

Book Description
Student misuse of mobile technology for off-task purposes has become an international phenomenon in college classrooms. When a student’s self-regulation of learning breaks down in the classroom, or when their task motivation begins to wane, turning toward their digital devices for leisure purposes is often the result. Although numerous studies have independently examined student digital distraction in the context of the college classroom, there remains a need to organize the field’s collective understanding of the phenomenon. Digital Distractions in the College Classroom explores the challenges that arise from student digital distraction along with potential solutions, including how mobile technology can be leveraged to improve student motivation, self-regulation of learning, and achievement. Addressing topics such as academic motivation and instructional design, this book is ideal for instructional designers, instructors, researchers, administrators, academicians, and students.
