Book Description
In 1981, the U.S. Army initiated a program with the JHU Applied Physics Laboratory to investigate the potential of developing small platform transmitter terminals (PTTs) to be mounted on animals and tracked by the French-U.S., Argos satellite system. The program was designed to provide a capability that could track migratory birds and other widely ranging species anywhere on Earth. Since the inception of the program, miniaturization has led to the commercialization and fielding of PTTs that weight less than 20gm and can interface with an array of sensors. Beginning in FY 94 the DoD's Legacy Resource Management Program and SERDP funded related projects to develop, demonstrate, promote and improve satellite tracking and monitoring systems for resource management and conservation on military lands. These projects were planned and executed in parallel. This Resource Managers' Technical Review summarizes: the Legacy/SERDP projects; the current state of how these systems and capabilities have been effectively used on a global scale; Current and planned innovative applications of these technologies for resource management on federal and private lands; and Future development opportunities.

Petroleum Resource Management
Author: John A.P. Chandler
Publisher: Edward Elgar Publishing
ISBN: 1786432218
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 317
Book Description
Petroleum Resource Management offers a thought-provoking examination of how countries manage their offshore petroleum resources by comparing the different approaches to licensing and regulation taken by Australia, Norway and the UK.Based on extensive research into their policies, licensing systems and resource management regulations, including interviews with government regulators and companies, John Chandler explores how these countries all face similar challenges as their offshore petroleum basins mature, including smaller discoveries, marginal production and ageing infrastructure. Identifying further challenges such as climate change and the increasing accountability in relation to sustainability and social issues, Chandler analyses how their petroleum policy, systems of regulation and regulators developed up to the present, and how they are responding to these challenges, as well as how they deal with exploration, development, infrastructure sharing and production. This timely and informative book will be essential reading for those in petroleum policy and governance, including petroleum lawyers, government officials, regulators and analysts. Academics and students on courses relating to petroleum regulation and the governance of resources will also benefit from this engaging book.

Electronic Resource Management
Author: Anne Elguindi
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1780633203
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 229
Book Description
A significant shift is taking place in libraries, with the purchase of e-resources accounting for the bulk of materials spending. Electronic Resource Management makes the case that technical services workflows need to make a corresponding shift toward e-centric models and highlights the increasing variety of e-formats that are forcing new developments in the field.Six chapters cover key topics, including: technical services models, both past and emerging; staffing and workflow in electronic resource management; implementation and transformation of electronic resource management systems; the role of the electronic resource librarian in discovery systems, layers and tools; and academic library consortia and the evolving role of electronic resources and technology. The leading chapters include case studies from around the world, and a concluding chapter focuses on the disruptive nature of e-books and how broad adoption of this format is emerging as the tipping point towards holistic 'resource management', where separate technical services processes for print and electronic resources are finally merged. - An emphasis on 'access' within the new technical services model - Focuses on the unique attributes of electronic resource management that are distinct from traditional print serials workflows - Covers consortia and how membership affects electronic resource management workflows, priorities, and technical processes
