Book Description
Excerpt from Remarkable Escapes From Peril, Vol. 3 There is, however, an important difference as respects the mode in which the facts thus noted are treated by mankind. No one questions the certainty of death: The living know that they must die. God's providential care for us and control over the events of our history, is, how ever, regarded by many with doubt, and, by some, is met with a flat denial. There are various degrees of scepticism on this point, from the atheist the fool who says in his heart, There is no God - the epicurean, who would place him at an unapproachable distahee from his creatures, whence he cannot humble him self to behold the things that are done upon the earth - the modern'philos0pher, who afiirms that the Deity works by necessary, universal, and invariable laws, which will not bend and adapt themselves to special individual cases, admitting a general, but denying a particular providence; - down to' the hesitating believer, whose feeble, languid faith is unable to grasp firmly the cheering truth that the very hairs of his head are numbered, and that not a spar row falleth to the ground without the will of his Father who is in heaven. Book Description
Cervantes is regarded as the author of the first novel and the inventor of fiction. From its publication in 1605, Don Quixote--recently named the world's best book by authors from 54 countries--has been widely translated and imitated. Among its less acknowledged imitations are stories in children's literature. In context of English adaptation and critical response this book explores the noble and "mad" adventures retold for children by distinguished writers and artists in Edwardian books, collections, home libraries, schoolbooks and picture books. More recent adaptations including comics and graphic novels deviate from traditional retellings. All speak to the knight-errant's lasting influence and appeal to children.

Book Description
The Five Classics are five pre-Qin Chinese books that form part of the traditional Confucian canon. During the Western Han dynasty, which adopted Confucianism as its official ideology, these texts became part of the state-sponsored curriculum. It was during this period that the texts first began to be considered together as a set collection, and to be called collectively the "Five Classics". I Ching - The book contains a divination system comparable to Western geomancy or the West African Ifá system. In Western cultures and modern East Asia, it is still widely used for this purpose. Shu King - A collection of documents and speeches alleged to have been written by rulers and officials of the early Zhou period and before. It is possibly the oldest Chinese narrative, and may date from the 6th century BC. It includes examples of early Chinese prose. The Shih King - A collection of 305 poems divided into 160 folk songs, 105 festal songs sung at court ceremonies, and 40 hymns and eulogies sung at sacrifices to heroes and ancestral spirits of the royal house. The Li Ki - Describes ancient rites, social forms and court ceremonies. The version studied today is a re-worked version compiled by scholars in the third century BC rather than the original text, which is said to have been edited by Confucius himself. Spring and Autumn Annals - A historical record of the State of Lu, Confucius's native state, 722–481 BC.
