"Lake sturgeon were once abundant in the major rivers in Missouri but are now endangered. It is doubtful whether lake sturgeon will increase in abundance naturally. The fact that only occasional adults are caught suggests that natural reproduction is either non-existent in Missouri or survival of young is not sufficient to increase population numbers. ; It is believed that suitable habitat exists in major rivers and lakes in Missouri and that lake sturgeon can thrive and once again be a viable part of the fauna of the state.
