Book Description
This monograph answers the rarely discussed questions of why complicated grammatical case phenomena exist in Korean and what the connection is between the case forms and their functions. The author argues that the case forms in Korean reflect patterns of the human cognitive process. While this approach may seem rather obvious to non-linguists, it is indeed a novel claim in contemporary linguistic theory. In order to provide technical analyses of Korean case phenomena such as multiple nominative/accusative, non-nominative subject, and adverbial case constructions, this book adopts an independently established descriptive construct known as reference point in the framework of Cognitive Grammar. The author demonstrates that the notion of reference point not only explains a substantially wider set of data, but also leads to a more reasonable generalization. The intended readership of this book are researchers who are interested in case phenomena, irrespective of their theoretical orientation.

Book Description
Most problems encountered in practice involve the optimization of multiple criteria. Usually, some of them are conflicting such that no single solution is simultaneously optimal with respect to all criteria, but instead many incomparable compromise solutions exist. In recent years, evidence has accumulated showing that Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs) are effective means of finding good approximate solutions to such problems. One of the crucial parts of EAs consists of repeatedly selecting suitable solutions. In this process, the two key issues are as follows: first, a solution that is better than another solution in all objectives should be preferred over the latter. Second, the diversity of solutions should be supported, whereby often user preference dictates what constitutes a good diversity. The hypervolume offers one possibility to achieve the two aspects; for this reason, it has been gaining increasing importance in recent years. The present thesis investigates three central topics of the hypervolume that are still unsolved:1: Although more and more EAs use the hypervolume as selection criterion, the resulting distribution of points favored by the hypervolume has scarcely been investigated so far. Many studies only speculate about this question, and in parts contradict one another.2: The computational load of the hypervolume calculation sharply increases the more criteria are considered. This hindered so far the application of the hypervolume to problems with more than about five criteria.3: Often a crucial aspect is to maximize the robustness of solutions, which is characterized by how far the properties of a solution can degenerate when implemented in practice. So far, no attempt has been made to consider robustness of solutions within hypervolume-based search.

Book Description
Over the last few decades behavioral economics has revolutionized the discipline. It has done so by putting the human back into economics, by recognizing that people sometimes make mistakes, care about others and are generally not as cold and calculating as economists have traditionally assumed. The results have been exciting and fascinating, and have fundamentally changed the way we look at economic behavior. This textbook introduces all the key results and insights of behavioral economics to a student audience. Ideas such as mental accounting, prospect theory, present bias, inequality aversion and learning are explained in detail. These ideas are also applied in diverse settings, such as auctions, stock market crashes, charitable donations and health care, to show why behavioral economics is crucial to understanding the world around us. Consideration is also given to what makes people happy, and how we can potentially nudge people to be happier. This new edition contains expanded and updated coverage of several topics and applications, including fraud and cybercrime, cryptocurrency, public health messaging, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The companion website is also updated with a range of new questions and worked examples. This book remains the ideal introduction to behavioral economics for advanced undergraduate and graduate students.

Book Description
Learn to effectively resolve conflict the way that works best for you When it comes to real-world conflict resolution, one size does not fit all. In the professional world especially, it’s critical for individuals to be prepared for a variety of situations and to know what tools and techniques can be used to settle disputes and disagreements in a way that is respectful of both party’s needs. The Conflict Resolution Toolbox shows mediators, negotiators, managers, and professionals at all levels how to simply and effectively assess conflict situations and choose the right tools to resolve the issue in a meaningful way. Understand the why behind the conflict and how it can be resolved Recognize the unconscious judgements and biases that are obstacles to conflict resolution View conflict situations objectively and from multiple viewpoints Learn how the latest neuroscience and behavioral economics research plays a role in conflict resolution With over 25 years of experience in mediation, negotiation, and conflict resolution, author Gary T. Furlong brings to light the intrinsic habits and interpretations that can unwittingly surface and lead to further tension during times of conflict and unrest. This timely update to The Conflict Resolution Toolbox marries theory and practice and is a hands-on guide to understanding the root of conflict and selecting the simple strategies for addressing specific scenarios that individuals routinely face in the workplace and in life. Conflict may be unavoidable, but resolution is within reach with the invaluable guidance and techniques found in The Conflict Resolution Toolbox.
