Castle Rock High
Author: Andrew J Boyd
Publisher: Andrew Boyd
ISBN:
Category : Young Adult Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 330
Book Description
High school is always the most happening time in an individual’s life. Sometimes, we find friends and relationships that stay with us forever, and sometimes we somehow begin finding solace in the loneliness that comes with the shift from middle school to high school as some friends move away. Where the former consisted of people like Oliver, Ashley, Seth and Emily, the latter consisted of people like Evan. Evan, after Justin and Kev left had been distraught and alone again, but that didn’t change anyone else’s experience around him. High schoolers often live a life of their own, fighting their own demons, and battling their own struggles. Most times, their parents too, are oblivious to the changes of the skies upon their children. The skies certainly changed over the Castle Rock High School in the year 2009 for everyone where there were some old promotions from middle school, while there were some new entrants, with new stories, and new passions. Oliver, coming from the children’s home was just settling into his adoptive parent’s home and was admitted into the Castle Rock High School. On the very first day he made friends with Seth, who was a Canadian-turned-Denver boy. Seth only loved two things before high school. Sports, and Music. That changed when he began falling for a transitioning woman, Ashley. Ashley was a girl, who previously identified as a boy in middle school, and with that change, came bullying and low self-esteem. This led for her to not just have body-image issues but also dwell into harming herself with razor-cuts. Amidst this chaos and bullying came her knight in shining armor in Seth, who accepted her for who she was. Through all of this, Oliver stuck by the two of them, as they formed a band together and began jamming sessions and also involved Oliver’s love interest, Emily. Trouble hit paradise when the Medicine Man came into the picture.

Book Description
This story has its beginnings in the town of Alexandria, Illinois, between 1884 and 1889, at the time when the place had a population of somewhere near ten thousand. There was about it just enough of the air of a city to relieve it of the sense of rural life. It had one street-car line, a theatre,—or rather, an opera house, so-called (why no one might say, for no opera was ever performed there)—two railroads, with their stations, and a business district, composed of four brisk sides to a public square. In the square were the county court-house and four newspapers. These two morning and two evening papers made the population fairly aware of the fact that life was full of issues, local and national, and that there were many interesting and varied things to do. On the edge of town, several lakes and a pretty stream—perhaps Alexandria's most pleasant feature—gave it an atmosphere not unakin to that of a moderate-priced summer resort. Architecturally the town was not new. It was mostly built of wood, as all American towns were at this time, but laid out prettily in some sections, with houses that sat back in great yards, far from the streets, with flower beds, brick walks, and green trees as concomitants of a comfortable home life. Alexandria was a city of young Americans. Its spirit was young. Life was all before almost everybody. It was really good to be alive.

Book Description
Risking Trust Michael Taylor is cooler than ice under pressure. As CEO of a private security company, his job means protecting those at risk. Clients pay top dollar for his team of special operatives to deal with threats. But now Michael’s the one in trouble—he’s the prime suspect in his ex-wife’s murder. To prove his innocence, Michael needs not just a few good men, but one smart woman. If she agrees to forgive him… Twelve years ago, Michael walked away from Roxann Thorgesson and never looked back. Now he’s standing in her office, accused of a heinous crime, the vulnerability in his eyes barely masking something else. Desire. The shock—and her body’s own traitorous response—shakes Roxann to the core. Still, she can’t let lust cloud her professional judgment, no matter how tempting. Michael needs her…or, rather, her newspaper to clear his name. Roxann wants to refuse, but journalistic instinct tells her there’s more to this case. Sex. Secrets. A dark and dirty cover-up leading all the way to city hall. And as the investigation brings Michael and Roxann closer together, revealing the truth threatens to rip them apart. Man Law Security consultant Vic Andrews fears nothing. Except emotional entanglements. He lives on the edge and by his own rules. Never mess with your best friend’s sister, for one. Especially when that sister is sweet and sexy goddess Gina Delgado. Vic is strictly a “no strings attached” kind of guy, and a young widow with three kids is guaranteed to tie his heart in all sorts of knots. Too bad other parts of his anatomy aren’t as easily deterred. Gina is no stranger to men like Vic. Men in love with their dangerous professions. Her firefighter husband may have been a hero, but his bravery is little comfort to Gina now. She refuses to face that kind of loss ever again. Still, a girl has needs. And Vic, with his military-hardened body and tender touch, is just the thing she needs to fulfill them. As long as they can keep things casual. But getting involved with Vic puts Gina at the risk of more than heartbreak. When Vic becomes the target of a terrorist seeking revenge, no one around him is safe. With Gina and her family in a madman’s sights, Vic will break all the rules to keep her close…and keep them all alive. Negotiating Point Gavin Sheppard can talk his way out of any situation. It’s what makes him Taylor Security’s top hostage negotiator. But he’s never had a case this complicated, or with so much at stake. The victim? His boss’s pregnant wife. The CEO won’t risk his family by calling the cops, so Gavin’s on his own. He’ll take all the help he can get, even from the agency's smart, sexy tech expert. Janet Fink codes and hacks better than the big boys. Still, as the lone woman on a team driven by testosterone, she knows nothing ruins careers faster than getting personal. And she’s already been too close to Gavin for comfort. Their last team-up ended in a mind-blowing kiss. One that can never happen again…and that she can’t forget. As the kidnappers’ demands grow, so does the heat between Gavin and Janet. They must put their skills to the test—and push aside their feelings—for a chance at success in a dangerous rescue.

Book Description
A memoir by an American who almost single-handedly introduced Soviet rock to the free world, [...] Stingray, who wrote this memoir with her daughter, Madison, nicely captures her daring amid an atmosphere of liberation and fear, and she's a study in moxie and enthusiasm. --Kirkus Reviews As one of the first American musicians to break through the Soviet scene, and one of the few women to be seen as an equal amongst Leningrad's pantheon of rock superstars, Stingray's perspective on the development of late Soviet rock is probably the single most important source for those who want a birds-eye view of late Soviet youth culture, and Stingray's stories are as entertaining as they are relevant and illuminating. --Alexander Herbert, author of What About Tomorrow?: An Oral History of Russian Punk from the Soviet Era to Pussy Riot Wild and vivid -- a rollicking memoir of romance and rock 'n' roll in an era of upheaval and transition. From Los Angeles to Leningrad and back again, Joanna's story is borne along by her infectious, headlong enthusiasm. It's quite a ride. --Patrick Radden Keefe, creator of the Wind of Change podcast and author of Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland The history of Russian rock music could have been very different without Joanna Stingray. Joanna was friends with rock musicians, recorded songs with them, shot their videos and brought them clothes and instruments from the West. Her video footage, capturing young icons of Russian rock like Viktor Tsoi, Sergei Kuryokhin, Timur Novikov and Boris Grebenshchikov, is rare evidence of the golden era of the Soviet underground. --The Moscow Times Red Wave is a warm and conversational autobiography about a lost world, peopled with courageous artists risking their freedom for the ideas of expression, art, and rock 'n' roll. [...] We root for her and her friends to overcome bureaucracy, oppression, isolation, deprivation, and the heavy footsteps of the KGB. [...] In a readable and personable way, Red Wave helps shine some light into this remarkable corner of rock history. --Tim Sommer, Guernica Joanna Stingray's appearance in St. Petersburg in the early 1980s must have been God's response to our unconscious prayers. Her naive bravery, curiosity and generosity created a kind of a lifeline for us rockers: she brought in things we needed to play our music, and took out not only our recordings but the very message of our existence. Had it not been for her and her Red Wave, it would have taken Aquarium many more years to have official records on Melodiya and Kino to start touring Europe. This fearless maiden broke through the siege that looked hopelessly unbreakable. She threw a life-saver into our waters and she changed everything. No matter how many times we thank her -- it's never enough. --Boris Grebenshchikov (Aquarium), 2018
