Book Description
The orientation relationships between deformed alpha-uranium single crystals and recrystallized grains grown in them by annealing can be expressed as 27.5 deg rotations about axes located 70.0 deg from the STA100!, 63.5 deg from the STA010! and 34.0 deg from the STA001! of the deformed orientation. The rotations are clockwise about two of the axes and counterclockwise about the other two. In deriving these relationships it was necessary to consider the recrystallized grains as originating from deformation twin orientations as well as from the parent crystal orientation. The relationship agrees well with expermentel observations of recrystallization textures developed from deformation textures for polycrystalline rod and sheet uranium treated in the alpha phase. (auth).

Book Description
X-ray diffraction measurements of uranium sheet reduced 76% in thickness at room temperature and after annealing at various temperatures indicated that as- rolled and recrystallized materials have different preferred orientations, contrary to previously reported works. The preferred orientations of samples annealed at 380 and 400 deg C were very similar, but different from that of a set of samples annealed at 450 deg C. Reannealing at 450 deg C did not change essentially the preferred orientation established by annealing at 380 deg C. Dilatometric measurements in directions parallel and normal to the rolling direction and lying in the plane of rolling did not conclusively substantiate the x-ray diffraction measurements. Recrystallization at temperatures from 360 to 450 deg C of the homogeneously deformed as-rolled structure was characterized by the formation of extremely fine grains in the early stage which later were absorbed by growth of somewhat larger grains. Evidence of ordinary secondary recrystallization was observed in specimens annealed at 600 deg C. (auth).

Book Description
"The possibility of obtaining larger, perfect single crystals of alpha uranium by a modified strain-anneal method has been investigated. A -196°C tensile deformation was performed on pseudo single crystal rods which had been prepared by the phase transformation method. The specimens were subsequently annealed at 650°C. It was found that by utilizing pseudo single crystals with a prescribed crystallographic orientation with respect to the tensile axis that recrystallized crystals of comparable size and perfection to those prepared by the grain coarsening method could be produced. Grain coarsening is the presently accepted process for preparing perfect single crystals of alpha uranium. The higher purity of the perfect crystals prepared by the strain-anneal method described in this paper is definitely an improvement over the purity of the crystals produced by the complex grain coarsening technique, which requires intentional additions of foreign elements"--Abstract, leaf ii

Book Description
This book treats corrosion as it occurs and affects processes in real-world situations, and thus points the way to practical solutions. Topics described include the conditions in which petroleum products are corrosive to metals; corrosion mechanisms of petroleum products; which parts of storage tanks containing crude oils and petroleum products undergo corrosion; dependence of corrosion in tanks on type of petroleum products; aggressiveness of petroleum products to polymeric material; how microorganisms take part in corrosion of tanks and pipes containing petroleum products; which corrosion monitoring methods are used in systems for storage and transportation of petroleum products; what corrosion control measures should be chosen; how to choose coatings for inner and outer surfaces of tanks containing petroleum products; and how different additives (oxygenates, aromatic solvents) to petroleum products and biofuels influence metallic and polymeric materials. The book is of interest to corrosion engineers, materials engineers, oil and gas engineers, petroleum engineers, chemists, chemical engineers, mechanical engineers, failure analysts, scientists, and students, designers of tanks, pipelines and other systems for storage and transportation fuels, technicians.
