Book Description
Recommended Methods for Purification of Solvents and Tests for Impurities is a compilation of recommended procedures for purification of solvents and tests for solvent impurities. Ten solvents are covered: acetonitrile, sulfolane, propylene carbonate, dimethyl sulfoxide, dimethylformamide, hexamethylphosphoramide, pyridine, ethylenediamine, N-methylacetamide, and N-methylpropionamide. This book is comprised of 12 chapters and opens with an introduction to general aspects of impurity effects. The rationale for the selection of solvent is explained, and the relative reactivities of solutes in different solvents are described. The following chapters deal with dipolar aprotic solvents (acetonitrile, sulfolane, propylene carbonate, dimethyl sulfoxide, dimethylformamide, hexamethylphosphoramide, and pyridine) for which impurity effects can be particularly severe, along with their general properties (freezing and boiling temperatures, density, dynamic viscosity, refractive index, dipole moment, relative permittivity, etc.) and the typical chronology of improvements in purification procedures and tests for purity. The final three chapters focus on amphiprotic solvents (ethylenediamine, N-methylacetamide, and N-methylpropionamide). This monograph will be a useful resource for chemists.

Book Description
Now in its fifth edition, the book has been updated to include more detailed descriptions of new or more commonly used techniques since the last edition as well as remove those that are no longer used, procedures which have been developed recently, ionization constants (pKa values) and also more detail about the trivial names of compounds. In addition to having two general chapters on purification procedures, this book provides details of the physical properties and purification procedures, taken from literature, of a very extensive number of organic, inorganic and biochemical compounds which are commercially available. This is the only complete source that covers the purification of laboratory chemicals that are commercially available in this manner and format.* Complete update of this valuable, well-known reference* Provides purification procedures of commercially available chemicals and biochemicals* Includes an extremely useful compilation of ionisation constants

Book Description
Recent developments in various areas of chemistry have been decisively influenced by the principles of structure and mechanism and by the ideas of coordination chemistry, in particular by the donor-acceptor approach, A unified view of almost all kinds of molecular forces is provided by quantum mechanics, and for practical purposes have been classified according to model assumptions, namely, dispersion, polarization, electrostatic, and short-range forces. The latter are divided into two- and three-center covalent chemical bonds, metallic bonds, and exchange-repulsion forces. This approach allows statements of principle and systematic analysis. However, quantitative predictions on concrete large systems are virtually impossible, and there are no general rules that account for structural and chemical changes due to intermolecular interactions. Chemists are therefore left with qualitative descriptions in which the changes in electron densities are considered. Such models as the MO theory or the resonance concept unrealistically assume that the nuclei remain in fixed positions. Further difficulties are encountered in the attempted description on the "nature" of the chemical bond, e.g., the forces involved. In order to avoid these difficulties an extension of the donor-acceptor concept, characterized by the comparison between equilibrium structures in different molecular environments, will be presented in this book. In this way, changes in the positions of the nuclei can be taken into account and the question of the nature of the molecular forces is no longer important.

Book Description
Solubilities of Inorganic and Organic Compounds, Volume 2: Ternary Systems, Part I focuses on a selection from the International Chemical Literature on the Solubilities of Elements, Inorganic Compounds, Metallo-organic Compounds, and Organic Compounds in Ternary and Multicomponent Systems. The book underscores that Tables 1-4955 deal with Ternary Systems, while Tables 4956 et seq. are devoted to Multicomponent Systems. The first tables are systems in which an Element is a component, and these are supported by data for systems containing Inorganic Compounds and then Metallo-organic Compounds. The ion of ammonia is placed at the end of the first Group. The text also presents the arrangement of the compounds of elements. These include oxides and their hydrates and salts of halogen and other acids. The book is a dependable reference for readers interested in studying the solubilities of inorganic and organic compounds.
