Meditation and Mantras
Author: Vishnu Devananda
Publisher: Penguin UK
ISBN: 9351186059
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 375
Book Description
‘A mantra is a mystical energy encased in a sound structure . . . It steadies the mind and leads to the stillness of meditation.’ The modern lifestyle with its excesses and worldly desires, the constant need to be connected, and the rapid development in technology, has made stress and lifestyle-related diseases the norm. The need for meditation thus is more acute. Meditation calms the mind, brings focus and enhances the senses, resulting in a better quality of life and work. And with the right mantras, meditation becomes a highly effective tool in unleashing the immense potential within oneself. This book from the Sivananda Ashram explains what meditation and mantras are and how they can be effectively used to recharge oneself with divine energy, so that the tension of body and mind are gradually reduced.

To Merge Or Not to Merge
Author: Lewis B. Ware
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Arab countries
Languages : en
Pages : 78
Book Description
The movement towards Arab unity is not a recent phenomenon. The conditions and circumstances under which it has taken many of its modern forms change from day to day; nevertheless, the concept of Arab unity is based on a socio-historical rationale as old as the Arab people. Arab unity today reflects this rationale as a historical imperative and symbolically represents a desire to recreate the links to a past which many believe has never been broken. In the broadest sense, this study seeks to clarify the socio-historical rationale upon which the ideological superstructure of Arab unity rests and to show how its unifying thread runs through a seemingly unintelligible diversity of events. Insofar as recent happenings in the Middle East have contributed to the revival of the Arab unit movement, a discussion of its historical genesis cannot be avoided. Still, history itself does not provide the only answers because Arab unity is a response to the heartfelt psychological needs of a historic people. (Author).

Rudolf Steiner's 'Philosophie der Freiheit' as the Foundation of the Logic of Beholding Thinking. Religion of the Thinking Will. Organon of the New Cultural Epoch. Vol. 2
Author: G. A. Bondarev
Publisher: Lulu.com
ISBN: 1304762173
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 376
Book Description
An introduction to Anthroposophical Methodology and a complete analysis of Rudolf Steiner's 'Philosophy of Freedom (Spiritual Activity)', Gennady Bondarev's 'Organon' demonstrates that the methodology intrinsic to Anthroposophy is fundamental to and capable of unifying all modern sciences as it describes the monistic sensible-supersensible reality. Through its anthropocentric and ontological character, this methodology's actualization implies an evolutionary change of both the human subject and the process of cognition itself. Rudolf Steiner's fundamental epistemological work is thereby shown to be the foundation for the development of a new kind of 'beholding' thinking - what Goethe began to experience and called "anschauende Urteilskraft." This is volume 2 of 3. The volumes, taken together, contain a completely new translation of 'Die Philosophie der Freiheit' by Graham B. Rickett.

Quest in the Caribbean

Pages : 228
Book Description
The final book in the Quest series is 'Quest in the Caribbean'. Wendy and I have become full time sailors. The sea has been kind to us. It has been our home, a very strict master and unforgiving teacher. We slowly learned our lessons of seamanship one day at a time. But more importantly we learned a great deal about each other and what it takes to be good companions on a tiny boat. 'Quest for the Caribbean' begins on a beautiful day in the British Virgin Islands. When we pass through the dangerous, narrow, reef-strewn passage in Virgin Gorda and enter the Caribbean we are one boat length closer to fulfilling our dream. There are many more islands to explore and miles to sail before the journey is complete. Some of the wonders that await our eager eyes are Saba, the fabled 'island in the clouds' and the neighboring island of Statia. The serenely beautiful island of Nevis, Montserrat's volcanoes, the gentle people of Dominica, Saint Lucia and the Grenadines all enrich our lives. 'Quest for the Caribbean' ends on the south shore of Grenada as we are about to fulfill a destiny that was many hard years in the making.

Essays on the Greek Romances Original Author: Elizabeth Hazelton Haight Edited/Added and Translated By: M. Meenachi Sundaram TABLE OF CONTENTS Essays on the Greek Romances. 1 PREFACE.. 4 ESSAYS ON THE GREEK ROMANCES. 7 Chapter I : THE GREEK ROMANCES AND THEIR RE-DATING.. 7 Chapter II : CHARITON’S CHAEREAS AND CALLIRHOE.. 18 Chapter III: THE EPHESIACA OR HABROCOMES AND ANTHIA BY XENOPHON OF EPHESUS 36 Chapter IV: THE AETHIOPICA OF HELIODORUS. 54 Chapter V: THE ADVENTURES OF LEUCIPPE AND CLITOPHON BY ACHILLES TATIUS 80 Chapter VI: THE LESBIAN PASTORALS OF DAPHNIS AND CHLOE BY LONGUS. 98 Chapter VII : LUCIAN AND HIS SATIRIC ROMANCES: THE TRUE HISTORY AND LUCIUS OR ASS 117 Chapter VIII: A COMPARISON OF THE GREEK ROMANCES AND APULEIUS’ METAMORPHOSES 148 INDEX.. 160 ABOUT THE AUTHOR.. 173 PREFACE If all the world loves a lover, as the old proverb says, then this my book should win wide fame. For these Greek Romances of the first to the fourth century of our era seem still to be singing the immemorial refrain from the old spring-time song of “The Vigil of Venus”: Cras amet qui numquam amavit, quique amavit cras amet. “Let those love now, who never lov’d before; Let those who always lov’d, now love the more.” At a time when fiction is the most popular form of literature, these wonderful old Greek stories of love, adventure and worship are half forgotten and rarely read except by the scholar. Yet here, as in epic, lyric, elegy, drama, oratory and history, the Greeks were pioneers. In the second and third centuries they had created four different types of romance (of love, of adventure, the pastoral, the satiric) which were to have great influence on French, Italian and English fiction. The student of comparative literature, the student of the history of fiction cannot afford to neglect these pioneer Greek novels. Their appeal, however, should be just as great for the general reader as for the scholar. For here are stories that mirror the life of the Mediterranean world in the Roman Empire with all its new excitements of travel, piracy, kidnapping, the new feminism, the new religious cults. And through all the different types of romance except viii the satiric the Love-God holds supreme sway over the hearts of men. So human, so vivacious are the love-stories that I offer to my readers Longus’ assurance of profit in his introduction to his Pastoral Romance:
