Book Description
V N Gribov, one of the founders of modern particle physics, shaped our understanding of QCD as the microscopic dynamics of hadrons. This volume collects his papers on quark confinement, showing the road he followed to arrive at the theory and formulating the theory itself. It begins with papers providing a beautiful physical explanation of asymptotic freedom based on the phenomenon of antiscreening and demonstrating the inconsistency of the standard perturbative treatment of the gluon fields (Gribov copies, Gribov horizon). It continues with papers presenting the Gribov theory according to which confinement of colour is determined by the existence of practically massless quarks. The last two papers conclude Gribov's twenty-year-long study of the problem; QCD is formulated as a quantum field theory containing both perturbative and nonperturbative phenomena, and the confinement is based on the supercritical binding of light quarks.

Book Description
Quantum chromodynamics is generally accepted to be the quantum field theory which describes the strong interactions in elementary particle physics. However, the question of the mechanism responsible for the “confinement” of the color degrees of freedom of quarks and gluons into hadrons still ranks as one of the most interesting open problems in physics. This proceedings volume summarizes the state of the art in this area of research. Mathematically inclined readers will find the articles based on monopoles, vortices, and topology most interesting. Meanwhile, lattice calculations can be performed for many important physical quantities. Their results can be used as guidelines for developing models of quark confinement. These models are indispensable for theoretical physicists performing calculations with the Bethe–Salpeter equation, Dyson–Schwinger equations, effective Hamiltonians, and potential models. The cross-fertilization of all these subfields of research becomes evident from the articles in this book. A few experimental papers are also included. Contents:Contemporary Applications of Dyson–Schwinger Equations (M B Hecht et al.)Strangeness Production Using Electrons (O K Baker)Glueballs, Hybrid and Exotic Mesons and String Breaking (C Michael)The Gluon Condensate from Gauge Invariant Vortex Vacuum Texture (K Langfeld)Quark Confinement in the Analytic Approach to QCD (A V Nesterenko)Confinement Picture in Dual Formulation of Lattice Gauge Models (O Borisenko & M Faber)Hamiltonian Lattice Gauge Theory (N E Ligterink)Electromagnetic Properties of Light Nucleon Resonances in a Chiral Constituent Quark Model (R F Wagenbrunn et al.)Relationship of Pionium Lifetime with Pion Scattering Lengths in Generalized Chiral Perturbation Theory (H Sazdjian)The Mass of the b Quark from Lattice NRQCD (S Collins)Weak Form Factors for Heavy Meson Decays (D Melikhov & B Stech)Instantaneous Bethe-Salpeter Equation: (Semi-) Analytical Solution (W Lucha et al.)QCD Sum Rules at Finite Temperature and Density (S Mallik)Mass of the Bottom Quark (W Lucha & F F Schöberl)and other papers Readership: Researchers, academics and graduate students in high energy physics. Book Description
The confinement mechanism of the quarks in QCD is one of the most challenging and open problems in physics. Confinement is a nonperturbative phenomenon, and a definite way to handle it has not yet been found in field theory. There are lattice calculations that can produce the low-lying states of the spectrum and ?measure? many important physical quantities, but nevertheless the development of analytical techniques is of extreme importance for understanding the physics involved in confinement. In this respect it is important to test the results obtained directly from the theory (Bethe-Salpeter kernel, effective Hamiltonians, quark potential, etc.) on the spectrum, form factors and decays of bound states of quarks and gluons, and to relate them to the results of lattice theory. In this book, the question of the confinement mechanism is addressed; explanations in terms of monopoles, instantons and dyons are reviewed and the connection with duality is discussed.

Book Description
Filling the gap in the literature on low-energy quark models, The Quark Confinement Model of Hadrons investigates confinement effects in the low-energy regions of particle physics using the methods of nonlocal quantum field theory. It also elucidates their role in describing microscopic quantities that characterize hadron-hadron interactions. The authors present a quark confinement model to describe the low-energy physics of light hadrons. Hadrons are treated as collective colorless excitations of quark-gluon interactions while the quark confinement is to be provided by averaging over gluon backgrounds. The model is shown to reproduce the low-energy relations of chiral theory in the case of null momenta and, in addition, allow the researcher to obtain more sophisticated hadron characteristics, such as slope parameters and form factors. Presenting a unified view on a number of low-energy phenomena, The Quark Confinement Model of Hadrons enables an understanding of problems related to the treatment of large distances within quantum chromodynamics.

Book Description
During the week of 3-8 June 1996, approximately 83 theoretical (and 2 experimental) physicists interested in the current problems of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) gathered at the American University of Paris, France, to present and discuss a total of 59 papers on Collisions, Confinement, and Chaos in QCD. Each of these three subfields filled at least two half-day sessions; and another four half-day sessions were devoted to miscellaneous and interesting papers on Quantum Field Theory (QFT), and especially on the proper construction of high-energy scattering amplitudes.

Book Description
The quark confinement mechanism is one of the most difficult problems in particle physics, and is listed as the 7 difficult mathematical problems of the new millennium. The first person who first solves this problem will be awarded a prize of US$ 1 Million by Cray Mathematics Institute. This volume is useful for the systematic understanding of quark confinement and nonperturbative aspects of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) from the wide viewpoints of mathematical physics, lattice QCD physics and quark-hadron physics. It covers the current studies of nonperturbative QCD: quark confinement mechanism; topologies in QCD (instantons, monopoles and vortices); BRS quartet mechanism for color confinement; lattice QCD calculations for quarks, gluons and hadrons; dynamical chiral symmetry breaking and hadrons.
