Progress in Compound Semiconductor Materials IV - Electronic and Optoelectronic Applications:
Author: Gail J. Brown
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9781107409149
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 558
Book Description
Central to bandgap engineering, or more precisely, 'wave-function engineering,' is the concept that, by spatially varying the composition and doping of semiconductors over distances ranging from a few micrometers down to one monolayer, one can tailor the electronic band structure in a nearly arbitrary and continuous way using epitaxial growth techniques. The objective of this book is to review the progress on interband and intersubband transitions in semiconductors including III-V, IV and II-VI materials and quantum structures, as well as to cover the progress on light sources, detectors, modulators and electronic materials and devices. This book brings together internationally recognized researchers to report on their most recent results and newly gained insights and to provide an up-to-date snapshot of optoelectronics and related fields in 2004/2005. The book covers a wide range of topics spanning opto- and microelectronic materials, growth and synthesis, devices, experimental techniques, modeling tools, and applications. Wavelength ranges span from the UV to the THz, and into the GHz modulation range.

Handbook of Less-Common Nanostructures
Author: Boris I. Kharisov
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1439853436
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 867
Book Description
As nanotechnology has developed over the last two decades, some nanostructures, such as nanotubes, nanowires, and nanoparticles, have become very popular. However, recent research has led to the discovery of other, less-common nanoforms, which often serve as building blocks for more complex structures. In an effort to organize the field, the Handbook of Less-Common Nanostructures presents an informal classification based mainly on the less-common nanostructures. A small nanotechnological encyclopedia, this book: Describes a range of little-known nanostructures Offers a unifying vision of the synthesis of nanostructures and the generalization of rare nanoforms Includes a CD-ROM with color versions of more than 100 nanostructures Explores the fabrication of rare nanostructures, including modern physical, chemical, and biological synthesis techniques The Handbook of Less-Common Nanostructures discusses a classification system not directly related to the dimensionality and chemical composition of nanostructure-forming compounds or composite. Instead, it is based mainly on the less-common nanostructures. Possessing unusual shapes and high surface areas, these structures are potentially very useful for catalytic, medical, electronic, and many other applications.

Semiconductor Materials for Sensing
Author: Materials Research Society. Meeting
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 408
Book Description
Members of the sensor community come together here to discuss advances in the development of new or improved semiconductor materials and in the fundamental understanding of the physical/chemical/biological phenomena at the origin of the sensing mechanism. Contributions dealing with sensor electronics/signal processing, computing algorithms, and packaging are not included in the volume. Chemical, magnetic, radiation, acoustic, mechanical, and biosensors are featured, as are nanosensors. Several papers highlight advances in combinatorial materials synthesis and theoretical modeling, and simulation of gas-solid interactions based on density functional theory. A combined application of sophisticated experimental and theoretical tools aimed at design and synthesis of novel sensors may have a lasting impact on general research approaches in the chemical sensor community. Presentations from a joint session with Symposium K, Solid-State Ionics, are also included and focus on solid electrolytes for membrane applications to develop selective sensors. Topics include: advanced materials and processing; nanotubes and nanowires; solid state ionics-based sensors; modeling, mechanism and structure-properties relationships; biochemical sensors; integration; and physical sensors.
