Book Description
This report represents the compilation of papers on the problems in the load-carrying application of high-strength steels. The papers were presented in five sessions at a symposium sponsored by the Tripartite Technical Cooperation Program on October 26-28, 1964, in Washington, D.C. Session I consists of papers on the broad subject of high-strength steels, to reflect the present state of the art, and on potential applications for these steels, including the design-material interplay. Session II papers deal with production and fabrication, with emphasis on the effects on, and the subsequent properties of, the resulting fabricated products. Session III papers deal with the very critical topic of corrosion sensitivity of high-strength steels, protection against corrosion, and the effects of protection techniques on steel behavior. The papers in Session IV are devoted to mechanical behavior characteristics of design significance. The papers of the last session deal with high strength steels by technical types so as to obtain an integrated picture of their behavior, properties and processing techniques; the papers also discuss strengthening mechanisms per se.
