Esta asignatura desarrollada para la Carrera de Posgrado (nivel Master), está vinculada a temas de Comunicaciones Electrónicas, especialmente el estudio de Redes de Telecomunicaciones.Tiene por objetivos que los estudiantes puedan por un lado "recordar" los conceptos de Teoría de la Información. Así en los capítulos I y II se tratan estos temas incluyendo Canales con y sin ruido. Estos capítulos pueden ya ser conocidos por estudiantes de carreras de grado y se pretende unificar un lenguaje, indispensable en el grupo de estudio de posgrado, a fin de continuar con el tratamiento de temas de comunicaciones. Estas unidades son una suerte de "introducción" y están desarrolladas pensando que se pueda comprender desde una lectura del apunte, en particular los alumnos que ya posean referencia de estos temas.Los Capítulos III, IV y V tratan de codificación, por una parte la codificación teórica con métodos como el de Huffman y vinculados a criterios de optimización dados en los capítulos anteriores. Luego los códigos con detección o corrección de mutilaciones, estudiados en tres instancias, códigos bloques lineales especialmente Hamming, cíclicos y convolucionales, esta división tiene el sentido de limitar la extensión de los temas y poder analizarlos. Los tópicos, incluyendo Modulación en trellis, son de una extensión tal, que exceden las posibilidades de esta asignatura por lo que es recomendable consultar la Bibliografía mencionada, a fin de ampliar o aclarar conceptos que se pueden haber deteriorado por la necesidad del resumen en el presente texto. Por lo dicho, este material constituye una idea de "mínima" y los actuales sistemas de spread spectrum, códigos catastróficos, sistemas de acceso por división de códigos etc. requieren una ampliación de los procesos de codificación/modulación, íntimamente vinculados, que serán tratados en las asignaturas que le sucedan a ésta en el Curso.Todos los Capítulos incluyen en el último tramo, un listado de "problemas" que son un excelente refuerzo del teórico previo.
