To mark the long history of Dominican involvement in defence of human rights, in the year celebrating the 800th anniversary of the confirmation of the Order of Preachers, two hundred Dominican brothers, sisters and laity met in Salamanca, Spain, to discuss the contribution of the Dominican Order, in the past, present and future, in the promotion and defence of human rights. It was in that city in the sixteenth century that, prompted by his Dominican brothers, such as Bartolome de las Casas, who were defending the indigenous people of Latin America against the Spanish conquistadores, Francisco de Vitoria planted the seed of today's international human rights movement. This volume presents in original languages the eleven papers given in Salamanca as well as the statement adopted by the delegates at the end of the meeting. They combine historical views, theoretical insights and testimonies from life experience. Dios ha querido que mis escritos lleguen a manos de tantos varones y mujeres de fe y así podamos seguir madurando en un continuo proceso de formación permanente e interdisciplinaria. Como personas, entiendo, no se puede vivir y celebrar la fe en forma disociada de la vida cotidiana. Siendo la fe un "modo de vida" y no solo pensamientos,se hace complejo no mirar la vida "según Dios". Como enseña San Pablo "Vivo de la fe en Aquel que murió y se entregó por mí". También el apóstol nos aporta que "el hombre no se salva por cumplir con la ley sino por creer en Cristo Jesús". Entonces, para "vivir de la fe en Cristo y creer en Cristo" necesitamos hacer un proceso de integración entre la fe y la vida. En verdad, nuestra vida debe ser un fiel reflejo de la fe que profesamos. Por eso, necesitamos incorporar los aportes científicos y universales de otras ciencias humanas al saber de Dios: la Teología. Cuando hay docilidad, cada predicación es como el agua que sacia la sed y suscita nuevos horizontes... Las etapas de la vida son distintas; también las circunstancias. Por tanto, la experiencia de la vida es fluctuante. Siempre dependemos de nuestras circunstancias, tanto intrínsecas como extrínsecas. Sin embargo, al entrar en "la moral de la Alianza con Cristo", aquello que es intrínseco, tendrá siempre nuevas perspectivas. Su Presencia, lo que en dogmática llamamos "estado de Gracia", genera diariamente "asombro y novedad", lo cual posibilita la "paz y el bienestar" que solo Dios puede darnos. Cada predicación tiene una introducción, un desarrollo y una conclusión. Es recomendable detenerse y reflexionar el núcleo central. Al final, conviene autoevaluarse con el ejercicio "Nos preguntamos y nos respondemos". Deseo que cada lector pueda "ejercitar espiritualmente" los contenidos del libro que contribuyen a clarificar "el sentido de la vida".
